As you probably know if you are an Android handset owner, when Skype delivered their Android app with two-way video chat functionality only a very small number of Android smartphone were able to take advantage of the two-way video chat function, however Skype has now updated Skype for Android to add additional handsets.

According to an article over on Engadget, Skype for Android has now updated to add to the original four handsets a further 17 devices including Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericsson, LG and Acer devices.

Originally the Skype for Android app two-way video calling feature was only supported by the Samsung Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro and Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo.

However now owners of the Samsung Galaxy S — Samsung Galaxy S II — Verizon Samsung Droid Charge — Samsung Galaxy Tab — LG Revolution packing Android 2.2 Froyo — Sony Ericsson Xperia Play — Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray — Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro – Acer A5 — HTC Thunderbolt — HTC Sensation – HTC EVO 4G — HTC EVO 3D — HTC Desire HD — HTC Incredible S — HTC Desire with Android 2.2 Froyo — and the HTC Flyer can all now use Skype two-way video calling.

However obviously devices running Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be able to take advantage of Skype two-way video calling much better than those on Android 2.2 Froyo, as Froyo only allows for the usage of the rear-facing camera.

Still at least Skype is slowing bring the updated feature to a wider array of Android devices, so given time eventually all Android Gingerbread handset should be able to make use of the app.
