The next Android operating system is known as Android Ice Cream Sandwich and is an OS for both smartphones and tablets, and now we have some confirmation just when Ice Cream Sandwich will be releasing to the mobile space, confirmation from Google Chairman Eric Schmidt himself.

According to the guys over at Slash Gear by way of Android and Me, during a Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, the Google exec confirmed that the launch frame for Ice Cream Sandwich is October/November.

Currently Android has two separate operating systems, Android Gingerbread for smartphones, and Android Honeycomb for tablets, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to unite both as one single device operating system.

Schmidt says, “We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.”

Rumour has it that the Nexus Prime will release with Android Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in November, however, this is basically the first time a Google chief ha actually come out and confirmed the timeframe for the launch of the new Android OS.
