Well now, it appears that in the first half of next year the mobile space could be seeing new Android smartphone powered by Intel’s lower-powered Atom chips as apparently during Intel’s developer conference in San Francisco, Intel execs stated that Android devices with Intel chips should become available in the first half of 2012.

According to an article over on The Guardian, Google and Intel have announced a partnership to deliver Intel powered Android smartphones and will word together to optimise future Android software for Atom processors.

Apparently the move could speed up Intel’s efforts to break into the smartphone and tablet arena, as thus far the problem for Intel getting into the smartphone market has been their x86 architecture, which is better suited for PCs and consumes too much power for use in smartphones.

Paul Otellini, the chief exec of Intel says, “The smartphone business is not established in terms of the ultimate shakeout of who’s going to win and who is going to lose. You saw what happened in terms of how fast Android took share from Apple. So good products on good platforms can really still make a big difference in this industry.”

Real World Technologies analyst David Kanter says, “It’s really about Google saying that Intel is going to be a first-class citizen in the Android ecosystem,” although also remarked that Intel will need to win over smartphone manufacturers in order to succeed in this new venture.

The new partnership between Google and Intel should make it much simpler for smartphone makers to deliver an Intel based Android phone to the mobile space with future Android software being optimised for Intel chips and tech.
