iPhone 5 Not Heading T-Mobile Way This Year
There have been numerous rumours of the next generation iPhone and which US carriers would be gaining the iPhone 5, obviously AT&T and Verizon Wireless, and word was Sprint and T-Mobile would also be receiving the latest iOS smartphone; however for those on the T-Mobile network who had hopes of picking up the iPhone 5 it looks like your luck is right out.
According to an article over on Slash Gear, whilst at the Mobilize conference, Cole Brodman, the chief marketing officer for T-Mobile told AllThingsD, they would “love to have” the iPhone but wont be getting it this year.
At the conference T-Mobile announced their version of the Samsung Galaxy S II along with the HTC Amaze 4G, and said they would be concentrating on these two new Android smartphones, and thus it seems Brodman has confirmed there will be no iPhone 5 on the T-Mobile network for the foreseeable future.
Of the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Amaze 4G, Brodman says, “We don’t believe these devices need to take a back seat to anyone,” and added, “We’re preparing to run this year and into 2012 primarily with Android and Blackberry and Windows Phone 7.”
Although it seems T-Mobile does rather well with the Android platform with 90 percent of their smartphone sales being Android devices, the news means that T-Mobile will be the only major carrier in the United States not to offer the iPhone.
The HTC Amaze 4G and Galaxy S II should be up for online pre-sale as of the 10th of October and in retail stores as of the 12th, the Samsung Galaxy S II will command a price tag of $229.99 after a $50 rebate card and the HTC Amaze 4G commands a price tag of $259.99 after a $50 rebate card and both on the usual two-year term.
