Android Ice Cream Sandwich HTC Upgrade Plans Statement
You should know by now that Samsung and the Google guys have gone official with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone to come out to play packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but what other Android handsets will see an upgrade to Ice Cream sandwich at some point in future?
Well according to an article over on Engadget, the first smartphone maker to step up to the plate and release a statement concerning upgrades to Android Ice Cream Sandwich is HTC, but unfortunately doesn’t give any timeframe for the ICS update.
Apparently HTC will have ea bit of a difficult time ahead with getting Android 4.0 on HTC devices because of the deep integration of HTC Sense into the Android core user experience, and is currently determining the best way forward.
Here’s what the HTC statement says…”We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone’s unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone’s performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.”
So if you are currently using quite an old HTC smartphone there is a possibility your handset won’t see an upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, although apparently the Google guys have said that if your smartphone is an Android Gingerbread handset you should be able to get updated to Ice Cream Sandwich.
As it stands, at least HTC handset users now know HTC is at least looking at their update plans for Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and will let users know more when they have more to reveal, and when that happens we will of course pass it along to our readers.
