As you know, the first smartphone to come out to play sporting the Google guys latest and greatest Android operating system, Android Ice Cream Sandwich is of course the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, however there is apparently some confusion over in the good old US of A whether Verizon will hold exclusivity over the Galaxy Nexus when it lands.

According to an article over on Phone Arena by way of Android Central, there is a possibility that Verizon will hold exclusivity over the upcoming Galaxy Nexus, but it isn’t quite clear for how long.

According to the Phone Arena guys old Sammy recently posted a sign-up page for the Galaxy Nexus, which enables those signing up to choose from 7 carries including Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and others.

However, the guys over at Android Central have found a banner (below), which clearly states, “Exclusively from Verizon, Galaxy Nexus,” so it would appear that Verizon will have some exclusivity over the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for an undetermined length of time.

There is of course a GSM model of the Galaxy Nexus, which Sammy and Google demonstrated in Hong Kong, and European carriers have stated they will be offering the Galaxy Nexus, so if Verizon does have a limited exclusivity over the device it will only be in the US.

However the official specifications for the Android handset does state the device has 850/900/1900/1700/2100 MHz, which means the device can play nice on both T-Mobile and AT&T.

So as it stands, there is a possibility that the Big Red may well have some exclusivity rights over the Galaxy Nexus, but thus far its not been made official so the confusion will continue for now until such times as Samsung or Verizon comes clean on the matter.
