No Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update rumour denial from LG
A few days ago word came down via the LG India Facebook page that the LG Optimus 2X smartphone would not be receiving an update to the Google guys latest and greatest mobile operating system, Android 4.0, however it appears that despite this info coming from an official LF Facebook page it appears that information is wrong.
According to the guys over at Slash Gear, LG has come forth saying the company “firmly denies the rumors,” and has issued a statement that says they are “currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X.”
However apparently HTC will only deliver and official ISC update timescale once Google has allowed the smartphone maker access to Android 4.0.
Here’s LG’ s official statement on the matter of the Android Ice cream Sandwich update…” LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.”
What is still unclear at this time is whether the LG Optimus 2X will eventually get updated to ICS and if so just when, but let’s face it this wouldn’t be the first time a turnaround when it comes to Android OS update has happened due to user pressure, as we all know old HTC did a u-turn earlier in the year when it came to delivering Android Gingerbread to the HTC Desire.
Anyway as it stands when it comes to the LG Optimus 2X, there is still a possibility the Android handset will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update at some point in the future or until such time as LG comes right out and says its not going to happen.
