It appears that Adobe is gearing up to send the Adobe Flash Player for mobile devices to the bin and has decided they will no longer push Flash Player for mobile devices apparently due to its usefulness being limited on handsets and its slowness with applications being the first option.

According to an article over on Ubergizmo by way of ZDnet, unnamed sources “close to Adobe” have been briefed on the firms future development plans and sent the following statement to ZDnet…

“Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates”

Apparently Adobe will now concentrate their efforts on mobile apps, expressive content on desktop, and increase their investment in HTML5.

I’m sure most know that Apple has constantly refused to allow Flash onto iOS devices opting for HTML5, and with Adobe finally ditching Flash Player for mobile it would appear that Apple was correct in their stand against Flash. Official word on the termination of Adobe Flash Player for mobile is expected to come from the company in the next day or so.
