Gmail for BlackBerry no longer to get Google support
Phones Review Quickie: For all you BlackBerry users out there that use the Gmail app for BlackBerry, you might be somewhat disappointed in this piece of news, as word is Google will soon discontinue support for the Gmail for BlackBerry app and once this happens the app will no longer be available for download.
According to an article over on Phone Arena, the Google guys officially announced the discontinuation of Gmail for BlackBerry on their Google Apps Blog, and have made it clear that this will happen as of the 22nd of this month.
However if you are a BlackBerry handset user and already have the Gmail for BlackBerry app installed on your device then you will still be able to continue using the application whilst those that do not have the app installed are advised to use their Gmail inbox through the web interface.
The Google guys say, “Beginning November 22, 2011, we will end support for the Gmail App for Blackberry (installed native app). Over this past year, we’ve focused efforts on building a great Gmail experience in the mobile browser and will continue investing in this area.”
As for any other BlackBerry clients that use Google services, currently there is no word on whether any will go the same way of Gmail for BlackBerry.
So there you have it, Gmail for BlackBerry will bite the dust as of the 22nd of November, does this bit of news disappoint any of our BlackBerry toting readers out there, if so feel free to voice your annoyance to our comments area below.
