Apple iPad in-flight entertainment rolling out by Jetstar
For travellers that use Australia’s Jetstar airline for jetting around you will be able to grab some in-flight entertainment by renting an Apple iPad during your flight as the new in-flight feature wa rolled out by Jetstar as of yesterday the 9th of November.
According to an article over on Ubergizmo by way of Lifehacker.au, the Apple iPad rental scheme wont be available to every passenger on Jetstar’s longer than two hour flights as smaller aircraft will only receive between 24 and 30 iOS slates, whilst bigger planes will get 160 Apple iPad units, so some are bound to miss out.
Apparently each Apple slate will be pre-loaded with numerous entertainment options including Australian, Japanese and Hollywood movies and will be updated each month and travellers will be able to rent the tablet for $12 to $15.
Other than that range of movies, the flying iPad users will have access to games as a partnership with Gameloft delivers eleven iOS games to the device including Shrek Kart, Brain Challenge, Let’s Golf 2, Shrek 4, Uno, Real Tennis, Ashphalt 5, Real Football, GT Racing and more.
Apparently the low-cost airline initially purchased 3000 Apple iPad 2 units, but if the scheme kicks off have said they will purchase more of the iOS slates. Howver apparently the Apple iPad 2 units are not your usual iOS tablets, as each tablet is enclosed in a case to block off the home button and sync port whilst the headphone jack has been modified and speakers are disabled.
And a warning if you consider walking off the plane with the iPad tucked under your jacket, each tablet is fitted with a security tracking device so you can’t take one home.
