Android Ice Cream Sandwich Xperia updates coming by March
Now that Android Ice Cream Sandwich is out and about on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, all Android user want to know if their smartphone will be updated to Android 4.0 and if so when, and recently Sony Ericsson let it be known all Xperia 2011 smartphones would be updated to Ice Cream sandwich at some point, and now word has come down just when that will be.
According to an article over on Phone Arena by way of Xperia Blog, Sony Ericsson Italy’s head of marketing, Maurizio De Palma has posted to the firms Facbook page that all Sony Ericsson Xperia 2011 device should be updated to ICS by March 2012.
De Palma also takes a bit of a swipe at Samsung by stating that Sony Ericsson will update throughout the range of 2011 whilst rival Samsung will not be updating the Samsung W, Samsung Ace or Samsung Mini etcetera.
However according to the Xperia Blog, for the last two years Sony Ericsson has launched their Xperia flagship devices during March, and thus it is somewhat surprising they would release an Android 4.0 update prior to releasing new handsets, which they claim could deflate sales of upcoming devices.
So for now it appears that owners on a Sony Ericsson Xperia 2011 handset can expect Android Ice Cream Sandwich to arrive by March 2012 if this all turned out to be spot on and nothing changes in the meantime.
The Xperia 2011 handsets expected to see the ICS update are, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Sony Ericcson Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro along with the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
