Sony Xperia U & P phones making a stand

During the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona Sony have gone all official and announced two new Xperia smartphone in the form of the Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia P handsets, with both the Xperia U and Xperia P being Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread smartphones and smaller models of the Sony Xperia S.

According to the guys over at GSMarena, spec wise the Sony Xperia U offers a 3.5-inch FWVGA Reality touch screen along with a 5 megapixel camera with 1080p video with Exmore R sensor, runs Android Gingerbread of course but will see an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, xLoud tech, 512MB RAM and a 1GHz dual core processor.

The Xperia U also features the transparent strip near the base like others in the new Xperia line but apparently the colour of the backlight changes so it matches the home screen and the bottom plastic is interchangeable.

The Sony Xperia P is the larger of the two handsets and offers a 4-inch qHD touch screen along with “White Magic” tech to deliver superior sunlight viewing, there’s an 8 megapixel camera, 1080p video, aluminium unibody, 1GB RAM and a dual core NovaThor processor and NFC connectivity.

We also have a quick hands on video of the Sony Xperia U for your viewing pleasure below courtesy of the guys so don’t forget to head on down and mash that play button. As for when the Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia P will becomes available, word is they will release globally at some point in Q2, no word on pricing yet though.
