Huawei Ascend D Quad phone hopeful July release

It wasn’t long ago that smartphones which were powered by dual core processors were the big thing, but now that is so yesterday as 2012 looks to be the year of the quad core powered device. One such device is the Huawei Ascend D Quad phone that will hopefully see a July release date.

The handset was officially announced at last month’s MWC 2012 event in Spain, and will be the company’s first foray into quad core smartphones, which according to Unwired View could be released sooner than some think. A Chinese website is claiming that Huawei will begin production of the Ascend D Quad in June with a release in early July.

Huawei’s new handset will have some stiff competition by that time in the shape of the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTCs One X, which should both feature quad core processors. There is also a chance Apple’s next iPhone may have hit the market by then as well, so Huawei will really need something to make their handset standout, and a lower price would be nice.

To recap the Huawei Ascend D Quad will feature a lovely 4.5-inch IPS HD display with1280 x 720 resolution. It will come running Androids Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, eight megapixel backside illuminated rear camera that is capable of 1080p video capture, 1.3 megapixel front shooter, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in memory that can be expanded via micro SD card, Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus sound, GPS, Wi-Fi, HSPA 21Mbps, and will be powered by the 1.2 GHz quad core processor developed by Huawei.

Benchmark tests put the Huawei quad core processor ahead of Nvidia’s much talked about Tegra 3 chip, and will be housed in a smartphone that is really thin. Currently there is no information regarding pricing for the handset, but as we get closer to the proposed launch timeframe some online retailers may begin listing the device for pre-order, which may at least give us some idea of how much it will cost us.

Huawei gets an edge on their competitors through stealing; plain and simple.  It’s likely they stole from Nvidia and “improve” on it.  Shame on them and the Chinese government.

what an ignorant claim. Huawei isn’t a state-owned enterprise anywhere. I wouldn’t think Chinese government want to conceal anything as they already own so many companies in China. You may claim Chinese government has some shares in Lenovo, but not Huawei. Huawei is among the top patent holders in telecom industry, its competitive edge is always price-wise rather than stealing patents. In a highly competitive market, stealing would result quite a headache in IP suit. Huawei indeed got some, but not really hurted by any of these accusations.

For a company merely dominate its home market and have 2/3 profit contributed by oversea market. I wouldn’t think that its international competitors would simply let it go if Huawei infringed their IPs.

Tegra is also ARM-based chips, everyone in IC industry knows what ARM do. Tegra is simply another ARM chip. You can say Huawei has no real design capability in chips, but seriously, do you need to steal from nvidia when you could easily buy the design from ARM?

I use an iPhone, despite being Chinese, I have no other connection with Huawei. I have no preference for China brand. Everyone knows how thinkpad has been ruined by Lenovo.

However, I like Huawei and I sincerely wish its success in smartphone area. The industry would be healthier and consumers would get more benefits only after we get more competitors in a market.

Who cares if they’ve stolen anything (but they didn’t – 64bit, no 5th core and so on) when they will release a great phone that has eliminated all the problems with other smartphones and yet it is wallet-friendly. I’m game!

  3. with only 8 gig and 4.5 inch screen i expect it to be closer to 450 euro then 500 euro seeting the one x is 500 euro here on and had more ram and a larger screen.
the lg 4x dh should be slihgtly under the one x and this phone should be under the lg 4x as it has 8 gig less memory abotard and a smaller screen.
