UK Galaxy S2 users kept waiting for Android ICS
Manufacturers of Android smartphones are continuing the sometimes slow process of updating their handsets to the latest version of the operating system, and almost two weeks ago we told you that the Android 4.0 update was beginning to be pushed out to the Samsung Galaxy S2, but it seems UK users are being kept waiting for the update.
When the news first broke it was claimed the software upgrade would hit the UK on the 19th of March, but unfortunately this would have been for owners of SIM free models. Carriers in the country have been slow releasing updates for their handsets, and according to Cnet Orange users will have to wait until April to receive it.
Orange confirmed the April time frame but didn’t provide a specific date for the upgrade to arrive, so users of the carrier could be getting it in less than two weeks or it could be over a month. Some owners with SIM free Galaxy S IIs have begun receiving Android ICS, but others are still waiting as Samsung is pushing the software out in stages.
The Three network has already begun rolling out Android 4.0 to users but some are still waiting to receive it, while rival carrier O2 has said they will begin the process at the end of this month so many users will still be waiting until April.
T-Mobile and Vodafone have also not provided a date for the upgrade to hit their customer’s handsets, although T-Mobile said they will make it available as close to Samsung releasing it as possible. This is a common practice with the Android platform as manufactures release the software carriers then take a while longer to release a version for their branded handsets.
Meanwhile there is still no news when the various different versions of the handset in the US will be getting the Android ICS upgrade either.
Has your Samsung Galaxy S II received Android ICS yet?

I have a SIM free Galaxy S2 and it’s Saturday and there is no sign of the upgrade via Kies.
This sounds very familiar lol, i had a samsung wave gt s8500 on thier own bada platform, updates were promissed time and again, no response from samsung, total pile of shite, i was thinking of getting a galaxy s2 so was just checking things out and found all this familiar sounding stuff, lol. SAMSUNG HAVE GREAT PRODUCTS BUT Â ARE Â SHITE.
Sim free s2 still no update
Sim-free S2 here and still no either…
Sim free but CPW branding, no update available. Gave in waiting and flashed Russian ROM. All good.

I’m an owner of a Galaxy S II also currently waiting for signs of an update to A4.0. It seems to me that Samsung should consider the loyalty of it’s owner base a little better, and in my case T-Mobile too. We choose Android over Apple’s iOS, we choose Samsung over other manufacturers, and as far as the service providers go we choose one over another. We are not shown the same loyalty or courtesy which is a great pity. Many people choose to root their phones out of a frustration at the slowness of the aforementioned groups to hurry through updates, often putting guarantees at risk and phones too. It’s the 21st century, speed is of the essence but it would appear not to be the case here. The S II is currently Samsung’s flagship phone and it needs it’s Ice Cream Sandwich…soon!
Lol smithy74 go get iphone 5 hahah and use boring ios which looks so outdated.
I think Google telling of releasing Android 5:0 in Q3 is a bit of a cheek when so many people are still waiting for Android 4:0. Ice Cream Sandwich perhaps should be called Frozen Ice Cream.
lol @ joe`s frozen ice cream think its more of a melting ice cream.Â
“Some owners with SIM free Galaxy S IIs have begun receiving Android ICS” – does anyone know if this is true?
I am a SIM free owner and have not yet received the update, lies. lies, lies and frustrations
Update it yourselves! It takes only a few minutes.
Samsung just lost its biggest fan. I work for o2 and promote 1000’s of samsung handsets. This just puts all the good work to shame. The amount of customers complaining back to me about the update service being a discrace. A set date should be met or an appology issued if its unable to be kept, Its a comon courtesy after we all spend £100’s on your handset or expensive contract!!!!! Not a happy s2 owner
I had a Galaxy Spica before the GS2 and had exactly the same fiasco upgrading from Cupcake to Eclair. Very annoying. Samsung and the UK carriers release half truths and nonsense that ulitmately annoy their customers. Why they don’t just wait until they know that it can and will be released across all handsets and networks is a mystery. This will probably be my last Samsung and Android based device because of all this fannying around.
“Some owners with SIM free Galaxy S IIs have begun receiving Android ICS”
Why are tech websites claiming this? Give me one example of someone in the UK Who with an unlocked GS2 who has received the update from Samsung, the only people I have heard of are those on the Three Network.
I suggest in the future you research your articles before posting them.
Well said, it seems to me that many websites are just blindly regurgitating (sp?) the info that Samsung are peddling. I’ve got a UK sim free Galaxy SII here and haven’t seen an update.
Hi just to clear that up.i have a sim free gs2 and i am with 3 and i have had no upgrade to ics.when i spoke to a customer services rep for three she told me to take it to the carphone warehouse and let them put the software on for me???
sim free and no update here!!! Well p***** off.Â
I got an update available message on my phone this afternoon but couldn’t accept because I was on 3g and not wifi. Now that I’m home and on wifi I’ve checked for updates but get ‘No update available’. Similarly on Kies I get ‘This is the latest firmware’. Anyone else had similar or received an OTA upgrade (I wasn’t actually expecting it OTA)?
i got the same yesterday, seems to av vanished tho

Just got the update on 02
How did u?
The ICS update for Galaxy S II, with Kies from Samsung , is a LIE.
The only ICS updates around were done with Odin, voiding the phone’s warranty. I own an unlocked GS2 since January and the only reason I got it (SIM free) was that I would get the promised update. Now I’m sorry I didn’t get it (a lot cheaper) from a carrier or wait for the S3.
not one confirmed case of galaxy s2 sim free ics update in the uk. i bought my gs2 on day 1. will buy htc next.
Sensations on Vodafone UK are receiving 4.0.3, but SIM-free models aren’t. They’re all as bad as each other ._.
Nokia went from top company to one that is near ruin because of how they treated their VERY lojal supporters !
Samsung and Networks should be very careful.
they have not learned anything from Nokia’s mistakes !
Still i`m waiting i havn’t received any Update i’m Using Sim free Galaxy S2 International buh still no hope for ICS ??
Meh. Even my iPod touch is running the latest and niftiest iOS, and it’s not even close to the price of your lovely GSII’s!
Poor Android.
thats because its not a phone d*** head!
Actually, no. That’s because Apple maintains the updates for iOS which are then pushed to iOS devices (carrier updates are separate), rather than being handed over to carriers who then add their own crap to the mix and take their own sweet time releasing the update.
The kicker here is that it’s not even a carrier issue – no SIM-free phones at all in the UK have received the update, however the Three network has somehow managed to release the latest firmware with all their bloatware in multiple regions before SIM-free.
Unhelpful response from Samsung received today!
‘Dear Stephen
Thank you for contacting Samsung.
In relation to your query I am sorry that you feel the release of
the Android platform 4.0 has not been quick enough all we can advise is
that it has been released and when available for your handset you will
be prompted for the update when you connect to Kies over the coming
weeks.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regardsÂ

Didn’t help in the fisrt place Samsung and ahow can week commencing 19 March end up a week later as ‘over the next few weeks?
Terrible customer service and very bad business!!
haha….. this is the responce I got!
First, My complaint….I””ve been checking Kies everyday for the proposed ICS update from week commencing monday 19th (As samsung stated it would), as of yet I have not been able to download the update. Kies is saying my phone is up to date with my current firmware version (KI4). I would like to know when this update is going to be available to download? If it has been delayed I would like to know why? And also I would like to know why netwrok 3 has already rolled it out to their customers. I paid 499.99 for my sim free factory unlocked handset and I don””t understand why I””m receiving substandard service? The Response….Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance. In relation to your query I am sorry that you feel the release of the Android platform 4.0 has not been quick enough all we can advise is that it has been released and when available for your handset you will be prompted for the update when you connect to Kies over the coming weeks. Would seem the responce is a template message!!!!
Sim free and no update either but unlike most of the people here, I am not in a hurry for this update. People should just lighten up and get a life.Â

I am in Canada and have an unlocked Galaxy S2 that was imported from either Europe or Latin America. Does anyone know if Samsung takes into account my location for the update, or should I see it when it is released for the model and firmware of my phone.
I have an unlocked Galaxy S2.PDA:I9100UHKI2
PHONE: I9100UHKI1
CSC:I9100UUBKI2
Model:GT-I9100
Android Version 2.3.4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9100UHKI2-CL553601 se.infra@SEI-07 #2
Build # GINGERBREAD.UHKI2Â
Anyone tell me when I can expect Samsung to release ICS for this via Kies?
You will only get the update when your phone’s CSC version gets released, it does not matter where you are. You can of course easily change your CSC but then if you are going to do that you may as well flash the whole lot with Odin and be done with it.
Oh and your CSC is Latin American, probably Brasil and as such will NOT be included with the first roll out of the software. Keep checking for the release date for the US and then add a few weeks!! 🙂
Thanks, that clears up a lot.
guys I live in the UK and  I have two sim free S2 phones, one which i rooted and flashed the polish version of ics and its working fine! and the other i just left it as stock gingerbread!
now the best thing is that when I flashed it to the polish ICS its still upgrade-able to the UK version when it gets released 🙂
my phone locked to 3 has got ics now
Anyone knows which country does I9100XXKI1Â belong to?
Thanks
I have ICS gs2 official release on 3 in UK.
To those waiting eagerly – don’t, it’s a huge disappointment
Looks and feels exactly the same as gingerbread, just a little slower, because Samsung deserted the nice look of ICS by putting touchwiz on top
It just makes the sgs2 seem the same but a little more laggy than before.
The only difference you’ll notice is the lock screen, I’m not kidding!
That’s it no more Samsung procts for me!!! Think I might try windows phone next…
You sure you got ICS? It looks completley different and runs just as fast as Gingerbread if not faster! Perhaps H3 have ruined it!
Yeah, it’s deffo ics. I forgot to mention one of the few other differences is the flying I’ve Android Easter egg.
That should be flying ics Android Easter egg, but it’s such a nightmare to go back and edit text here that I gave up.
Problem I think with sgs2 is that gingerbread on it just looked and felt like touchwiz. Now ics looks and feels like touchwiz, just a little more laggy
every sim-free gs2 owner should post a message on samsung facebook page at the same time to show we will not stand for third rate service when we have paid premium price to be ahead of the cue. then maybe we might get the truth if not recommend making the htc one x phone of the year 2012. that will teach them a lesson.
samsung, fcuk you very much , i eagerly await iphone 5Â
I have got a GS2 sim free which i bought for 540 quid from the samsung stand at the gadget show, i ordered it before the release date to get it first, i am getting the same message on KIES, no update available. I have read somewhere that you have to register your product with samsung, i have done that also still awaiting the update 🙁
