With Research In Motion continuing to lose in the mobile space, one would have thought the BlackBerry maker would be looking at delivering high end BlackBerry smartphones with very impressive specifications in order to get back some of their former glory, but it doesn’t really seem the case, as with RIM’s upcoming budget handset the BlackBerry Curve 9220, which we have the specs for today.

According to the guys over on Rethink Wireless, although Research In Motion hasn’t got around to officially announcing the BlackBerry Curve 9220 just yet, a simulator (downloadable here) has been released that indicates it wont be too long before RIM does the deed.

So what does the upcoming BlackBerry handset offer when it comes to those all-important specs? Well the BlackBerry Curve 9220 sports a 2.44-inch QVGA display along with a 2 megapixel rear facing camera, EDGE, GPRS, GSM connectivity, 512MB RAM, 512MB internal storage, microSD expansion, runs BlackBerry OS 7.1 and has the traditional BlackBerry form factor.

Thus it would appear that the specs for the BlackBerry Curve 9220 aren’t too impressive and certainly wont be turning Research In Motion’s bad fortunes around any time soon.

As for what the BlackBerry Curve 9220 will hit your pocket for, well that isn’t known at the moment, but one would expect the device not to command a too high price tag.

Obviously the budget device wont alter the course of RIM, but that is something that RIM hopes will happen when they get around to releasing their first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, currently rumoured to be the BlackBerry London.
