This weekend in the U.S. is Memorial Weekend with Memorial Day itself on Monday May 28. This is a special day that’s always marked on the last Monday in May and it commemorates all of the men and women of the US who have died in military service. We’ve put together a few suggestions of top apps for Memorial Day 2012, for both iOS and Android devices, to help you mark the occasion.

Many people will have family gatherings this weekend, or make visits to cemeteries or memorials and on Memorial Day itself it’s traditional to fly the US flag at half mast between dawn and noon. Many American flags will also be laid on graves in national cemeteries. According to timeanddate.com the day was originally called Decoration Day and honored those who died in the American Civil War. It’s a very important time then to honor those who have died in military service and the following apps may help you out. If you want to find out more or download the apps simply click on the titles to be taken straight to the App Store or Google Play store.

The first app we have for you to consider is an iOS app called Memorial Day — Cards and Greetings. This is priced at $0.99 and compatible with iPhone, iPod and iPad running iOS 4.0 or later.
