Samsung Galaxy S3 US carrier availability & Jelly Bean update

The Android platform is currently being dominated by the Samsung Galaxy S3 that has seen record pre-orders for a number of retailers and carriers, but it seems the company has had trouble keeping up with demand and today we are looking at the Samsung Galaxy S3 US carrier availability, as well as the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

Last week was the official launch of the Galaxy S3 in the US, but the high demand has seen delays in the handset becoming available as the company looks to offer features that other handsets may not already have. According to the San Francisco Chronicle it may be some days yet before consumers in the country will be able to get hold of the handset in stores.

All four of the big US networks have reported delays in shipping units out to customers that have already pre-ordered the Galaxy S3, and Dan Lim of Igalaxys3.com feels it could be a number of weeks yet before the handset is readily available to Android fans. It doesn’t help that the US version differs slightly to the international model.

First up AT&T has apologized to its customers that were promised a June 21st delivery of the Galaxy S3, with these deliveries expected to drop at anytime but the carrier hasn’t revealed an actual date. T-Mobile has the handset up for pre-order with units available for delivery but no date has been given for availability in stores.

Verizon has no official date yet but the handset is expected to start shipping by July 11th, while according to GottaBe Mobile Sprint will have the 16GB version available for $199 from this coming Sunday and the 32GB model for $249.99, but the 32GB version will only be available online and via telesales and not in retail stores for now.

Meanwhile The Verge has gained some information from sources regarding the Galaxy S3 and the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that was announced yesterday by Google. It is being claimed that last minute adjustments were made to the handsets specs in some markets to “future-proof” the handset in readiness for the new operating system. Samsung’s engineers were not completely sure of the software’s hardware requirements, so decided to push up the internal RAM to 2GB to make sure.

Sources are currently unaware of Samsung’s plans for releasing Android Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3, but considering the aging Nexus S is down to receive it the device will be more than capable of running the software.

Are you still trying to get hold of a Samsung Galaxy S3?

I used to laugh at people who “fell in love” with their phone until Samsungs S3 arrow poked me. To me the screen size and quality make all the difference in the world.

I can smell the BS… where are these “claims” coming from? You?

    1. The Nexus S is getting Jelly Bean and it runs on 512MB of ram, 300 available.

    2. The Galaxy Nexus also has the same amount of RAM as the SGS3.

    3. Finally, the reason why Samsung bumped it to 2gbs was because the S4 with it’s Adreno GPU and 4G LTE radios require around 400mb of ram due to the lack of dedicated video ram, etc. This is the main reason why Samsung put in 2gbs, they didn’t want the same multitask issue like the HTC One X S4 has. HOX can’t even open up 4 apps without them freezing or closing.
