Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean disappointment
Once Google first announced the Android Ice Cream operating system we experienced months of handsets owners waiting to receive the update, or even find out if their device would be updated in the first place. Today we have the news of some possible Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly bean disappointment on the cards.
According to an article on The Christian Post some hardware limitations may prevent owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 from receiving the Jelly Bean update when it is available. As we reported before the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be getting the new operating system as Samsung engineers bumped the specs to future proof the handset, but its predecessor allegedly lacks components to allow Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smoothly and efficiently.
The Galaxy S2 screen resolution of 800 x 480 is believed to be too low for Jelly Bean and quad core processors are preferred for the software, and another thing that would cause problems for the handset is that it wouldn’t run as smoothly with the TouchWiz Android overlay running simultaneously with Jelly Bean.
This is a similar situation to what occurred last year with Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy S I9000, as the company announced the handset was not getting the upgrade because of hardware limitations, and incompatibility with other software on the handset. The smartphone manufacturer is expected to announce compatibility with Jelly Bean in due course, but currently the only devices defiantly getting it are the Galaxy Nexus, and the Galaxy S3.
This makes you think that Samsung and Google are trying to phase out older handsets to persuade consumers to upgrade to newer models, but this is likely not to go down to well considering many may have just got hold of handsets such as the Galaxy S2.
The handset is still a worthy device that still performs well and many owners may not have the desire to quickly go out and upgrade it for a newer model. Will you be disappointed if the Galaxy S2 doesn’t get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?

galaxy s2 will get jelly bean as the 2010 google nexus s is getting it with the same screen resolution a low powered processor and a tiny bit or ram it would look bad on samsung if they abandoned the galaxy s2 with its much faster processor and specs
To be Honest, I am still doing very well with 2.3.6 on my Galaxy S2. It runs most of the apps well and my battery can well last over 1 day if I don’t go 3G for the whole afternoon. continuously.
As the saying goes, don’t fix anything that ain’t broken. So I guess I will leave it that way.
Galaxy SII will definitely get Jelly Bean, but probably not from Samsung. The developers on XDA will absolutely 100% for sure be making a ROM for the SGS2, and it will not need to run on TouchWiz. My guess is that a fully working ROM will be ported by mid-october…
I agree, but I’d change the date to September, or even August if we’re lucky.Â
With the PDK out, and the code being a much less radical change compared to the jump from Gingerbread, I’ve a feeling we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.
I hope you’re right on the ETA! 😉
same here i think that XDA will give the update for the next month
yeah thats why I really love XDA….keep up the good work….ur our heroes.fuck the samsung mafia…………
Personally i am not too bothered as when i got android 4.0.3 i found it in some ways buggy as i have had many moments when a reboot is neccessary. But to be fair it is quicker in some ways. Also i have found out that wifi direct will only transfer a max of about 600k – 800k before it fails. Receiving is not a problem. So maybe samsung shouldnt force too much on gs2. I will upgrade next year to gs4. There will be plenty of performance in that for any OS.
jelly bean is not such a big update…anyways the custom roms will appear and bring us jelly bean on sgs2! 🙂
.
Why does everyone care whether they get these updates, as long as their phone runs fine? I mean really….
I was thinking the same thing… Â
the previous comments are so over the top  (“Go to hell Samsung”  “Thanks for nothing Samsung!”- you can almost hear the foot stomping)  Why the desperation to have the absolute latest software updates?  I could understand if the device lost a considerable amount of functionality … but like someone else said if it ain’t broke dont’ fix it.  Gingerbread works just fine on my Note. Not sure when it will get the ICS update, from what I hear, not sure I want it
I think this type of reaction is becoming more common..especially when it comes to what people expect from technology… some seem to lose all sense of perspective.
You got your source from some random Christian site that has no source other then the screen resolution is too low and in their own words ”
Some of these hardware limitations include low screen resolution, with most S2s having a 800 x 480 resolution, and the fact that it features a dual-core processor, while quad-core chips are preferred for JellyBean.” Eh.. Sorry but the Nexus S has only 1 Core and same resolution as the SGSII yet it’s confirmed to get JB. What about all the HTC One XL and SGSIII North American Snapdragon S4 dual core devices? by their logic then they shouldn’t get JB either.. Seriously next time don’t go picking up stories from some random website that doesn’t deal in Android only news/reviews
Unless of course this is just click baiting
My GS2 was better on Gingerbread than ICS, so .
I don’t want any â€upgrade “!
I have heard that nexus would be getting JB update, although it has lower specs than the Galaxy S II.
My galaxy s2 worked fine on gingerbread had nothing but problems when updated it to ics 4.0.3
Wnt be doin any update on my s3
Galaxy S3 rocks and rules…
what about galaxy noteÂ
Who Care About Jelly Bean XDA Will Anyway Make A Rom For S2 Don’t Need It Officially And Also Jelly Bean Looks Just As Crap As ICS…Clean Gingerbread Still Looked The Best But ICS Performed Better And If Its Going To Look Like ICS And Perform Worse Then Gingerbread Who Really Wants It?
I agree with what Carl has to say. 😀
Soon the XDA devs will make a Jelly Bean ROM for it and it’s going to be better than most other officially-updated phones.Â
We’ll just wait for another month.Â
All the Androids I’ve used are HTC Desire S, Sensation XL, Note, Droid Razr and S2.
Out of all these, I liked S2 better. The build is amazing (I’m not sure if I’m going to buy another phone soon. Maybe when Motorola or HTC or Samsung will release another kickass phone, I will) But I’m very happy with the S2 and the ROMs available now.Â
XDA developers have already started working on a ROM. B)
so strange.. in any aspect, s ii looks better than the nexus from spec and hardware.. i think it’s the way samsung force consument to buy the newer device.. like galaxy s that have higher spec than the nexus.. and if we look at the feature on ICS and what we get on s ii official firmware, so many feature are missing.. i think samsung did not want work harder to what the consument want but their focus is how to make extra and extra money.. how pity samsung..
Yes I will be disappointed
Yes very disapointing, I guess you cant really blame them though, as they want to push the limitations of the S3 not still provide for the S2
The fact is that Google announced that the Nexus S (same spec as SGS1) will get Jelly Bean update.
The only reason Samsung are not upgrading SGS2 is either TouchWiz is very badly written or they do not value their installed base.
“but currently the only devices defiantly getting it are the Galaxy Nexus, and the Galaxy S3.”
That’s not true! My daugter Workinf in Google at Dublin has a Samsung Note with jelly beans since few weeks
Samsung things they are Apple now. Shame on you Samsung, I just ditched Apple because I’m sick of this forced obsolescence crap. I had great faith in you. Now I realize I probably should have kept my head up my but and stuck with Apple. At least their updates arrive BEFORE they make your phones obsolete.
Yes. With the 1st iPhone I was happy after the Apple conference because I experienced the same upgrade beyond my carrier limitations. Now with Samsung… I depend  Samsung…. on Google, and on my carrier.
Waiting for a generic (chinese?) n-core mobile phone to install my desktop OS there. It is happening…
Love my s2 , ics works just great the only phone that wowed me and still wowing me every day so there is no need to buy a new phone even if i do ( if anything happened to this one ‘ i hope not i will but another S2 )
Best phone ever made
I did the update for sgs2 today and now I get no signal… @ all.
Samsung tech tried to fix it but now I have to travel 25 miles to a att store to exchange it. I wish it was fixable. The tech told me that ICS update for sgs2 had a malfunction r something like that.
Well……….
true its a great phone. But dont close yourself from all the innovation happening out there.the next nexus phone is going to be just awesome
too low resolution n need to be quad core?! LOL, nexus s is still getting jellybean!I guess the nexus devices do get their fair share 😉
Nexus s owner
. Ics Swype keyboard is not a good as the gingerbread version
Copy and paste still need to be improved in Android Ics. I hope the s2 gets the jelly bean update.
Disappointed? I’d be fking livid. This phone only came out last year for goodness sakes! I am no fan of Apple (obviously) but at least they upgrade their older devices as well. Upgrade to an S3? I’ve only had my S2 for 6 months!!
If google want to take on Apple, stop treating 1 year old phones as obselete.
I’m done with Samsung. Nice hardware, but crap for software.
I have a GT-I9100LKLTPA factory unlocked and unbranded Galaxy S2.
I thought this would be first to get an update. I was wrong.
Looks like I am at the bottom of the Samsung dung pile.
I will only buy pure android in the future. Â
Anyone recommend a phone with high end specs and pure Android with a path to Jelly Bean, 8Mpx camera and SD reader?
I recommend you nexus series. Good hardware and up to date software
It doesn’t have an SD reader. That is what kept from buying it.
after having the SGS1 and running into the same upgrade excuse, then getting it now for my SGS2 I fully expected Samsung to pull this stunt because they’re just as totally self-interested as Apple with no loyalty whatsoever to their customers. I can safely say I will never buy another Samsung product, or any product which benefits Samsung due to Samsung components. Tired of pathetic excuses.
I’m all ready disappointed. I swear my god it will be the last galaxy if they will not upgrade it. Samsung go to HELL
There’s GALAXY NEXUS BY GOOGLE. Watch your words before swearing 🙂
CM10
nah not really, major pissed off my s2 didnt even get an update to ICS because I was punished for buying it PAYG from Carphone warehouse (what the f*ck??!!) and they wouldnt release the update, so i put CM9 on it. amazing OS. ill just wait for Cyanogenmod 10 to come out with Jelly Bean.Â
Thanks for nothing Samsung, finding new ways to screw customers over, every day. (sounds so similar to Apple)
So is it time to move ahead of Galaxy S2 already? The technology pace is so fast these days that products are phasing out very rapidly. Its one thing to produce a newer version of a software, and its entirely different thing to force someone to update their hardware.Â
AS I believe the life-cycle of hardware should be and is much longer than software. So @Samsung:disqus , Guys, please come to your senses. When you first launched S2, you had made it future proof. Now that S3 is out, suddenly S2 seems old and aged?
If Nexus can run Jell Bean, why S2 would be that behind? There is a reason why some people prefer Android over Apple, honor them. Don’t turn into yet another Apple, one is enough already !
Hardware limitations my ass the nexus s is in all ways inferior to the s2 and will get jelly bean
The sooner people move to nexus devices the better. Cyanogenmod is OK but somewhat slow right now
I have decided that long back.nexus is the way to go for pure google experience. Its just awesome.Once I am done with my s2 I would b going all nexus
I regret upgrading to ICS from 2.3 which was default on my S2. It looked and felt better at that time but now it is slow as compared to when 2.3 was on
Will I be disappointed? Well, F*CK YEAH! I mean come on most people just got their S2’s, Samsung may wanna persuade their consumers into upgrading to the S3 but most people may have just gotten the S2. It in many countries was actually the device to make Samsung popular amongst consumers. If they don’t upgrade this device, it’s just STUPID!
Hugely disappointed, its the same story all the time. Samsung said the S2 was future proof, so it should sort something out just like HTC did with the Gingerbread update for the Desire (which I had, and quickly changed to S2 when contract run out). But now I find myself in the same situation, which I shouldn’t be, because the S2 runs just as quickly as the S3. If Samsung doesnt provide the S2 with a decent Jelly Bean update then they can kiss goodbye to me upgrading to another Samsung after this 2year contract runs out.
haha bullshit site
dont fall for this
s2 will get jelly bean
yeah I’m hoping that s2 users will get update also.
No need to hope!! Samsung has confirmed themselves about the update.
Samsung, just fix all the bugs ICS has first before living S2 users behind. Browser crashes and toggling wifi and data on and off issues perhaps. Do not force us to upgrade to S3 or should I say downgrade to S3. S2 is better than S3…
Samsung Sucks . S2 Was Also Their Flagship And When S3 Was Released , They Just Dumped It .. They Don’t Care About Their Customers And Thinking Only About Profit … Atleast Apple Is Now Caring For Their Clients Because They’re Releasing The iOs 6 Soon For All Apple Users .. I Still Think S2 Is Better Than S3 🙂
Balls
The Nexus S is getting Jellybean THIS MONTH.
This is just controlled obscolecense.
Wait for CM10 and root.
This is BS am getting tired of incorrect information with no sort of source what so ever. The nexus s which has a 1Ghz single core processor with 512MB ram and a 800×480 resolution is getting the jelly bean 4.1 update then its either Samsung being lazy , this post is a load of guessed up BS or jelly bean is actually coming to the s2. Hardware doesn’t seem to be the problem in my eyes its Samsung’s own version of the OS. Touchwhiz most likely will make it tricky to implement the jelly bean features such as “project butter” as well as other features , into the touchwhiz operating system pretty difficult , if Samsung lets me down i will never buy a Samsung phone again and stick to the pure Google nexus devices in order to get the latest updates accordingly. Google realised the SDK so i don’t see any excuse in which the OEM’s could give in order for the jelly bean update not to have been on devices by September. but then again i could simply get the CM10 ROM or the AOKP ROM and have a pure google experience as well as an additional amount of features. or i might just wait to get the galaxy note 2 , only time will tell.
Seriously, the S3 is nice. But it doesn’t fit my specs. Why? It’s far too big for me. Yes, too big. IÂ won’t wear my phone pocket. I wear it at my belt. It’s really simple: In my pockets i wear coins, keys and many other things, that may (yes, Gorilla Glass is nice, but just to be sure about) scratch my phone. Find a case for wearing it on your belt – you won’t. And if you, you’re wearing a damn big thing each time. Try to sit down – not comfortable at all.
Nothing against the hardware, but seriously: Just upgrading from my beloved SGS2 to SGS3, because of a bigger resolution and a quadcore? Nope, never. At my opinion: The design is awful. I tried to love the SGS3 design, but i couldn’t. I didn’t felt good for me.
And because of a bigger resolution & quadcore, a minor (!!) update won’t fit at SGS2? Cmon. SAMSUNG, are you really believing this? Seriously? You can really sleep well, telling this bullshit (sorry)?
But do what you have to do. Cyanogenmod will show you once again, how much you fail. Touchwiz? Ahm, no. Bloated firmware with a bunch of batterytrolling apps? Hell, no! Did you ever care about a proper kernel? Also no. Care about minor things? Ahm, no too.
So there is a really reason to dump SGS2 and buy a SGS3? None at all. See, XDA is a fine place for all, maximizing performance and getting things, they really need. Personally, i don’t need a quadcore or a bigger display than SGS2. My girlfriend owned a Galaxy Note and is happy with it – i wouldn’t. The reason? Wrote above. For women and girls, they put the phone in a normal case & into their handbags. Man & boys? Hell, where should we put the big telephone? In our pockets back of our pants? Sure, you’ll get money, because we break the display. In front of our pants? Like i wrote: Keys, coins, etc. Even with a case, it’s not comfortable at all.
Summary: The Galaxy S2 was a real milestone, but you stepped back at SGS3. Hope, the SGS4 will be better. I’ll stick with my SGS2 until then, including Cyanogenmod & a preferred kernel.
after my first android phone in SGS2, I would never go to any other android phone other than the nexus line. I think we had to wait 6 months just to get ics on our phone? I’m not sure about other regions, but in Australia, there was major battery issues, like burns through battery in 30 minutes, happened to me as well.
As for the touchwiz thing, some people might like it, but large amount of people I know, uses other launchers just so they can get the pure ics feel to their phone. Dunno why they waste their time to these things, will the people who still uses touchwiz miss touchwiz? I doubt it. With Android getting more and more functions integrated, overlay just isn’t needed much more. Enjoyed touchwiz functions before ics, but not after. The only thing great about touchwiz before ics was the screenshot function. They might as well name their android line to android nexus, because every other android phone isn’t worth it, huge delay in software update, meaning potential bugs that will take forever to fix, laggin behind in the software front, potential app incompatibility. Their phone might look nice with powerhouse spec (which SGS3 doesn’t have the looks, nor any camera upgrade, the quad-core doesn’t save any power as promised), but the missing software link makes them invalid as a potential purchase.
Why can’t they just put their phone as pure android, with the launcher overlay as a future app download?
I think to many people have become so use to the Apple’s “upgrade philosophy” or more simply there brainwashing propaganda, that we have forgotten what is really important. Its not spend our hard earned money or create debt to have the latest and greatest. Or to be a distribution junkie, the point is to stay in touch with our loved ones, even when every day lives are so busy, you can send a message to your that special someone to tell them you are thinking about them. So I say I don’t care if my phone does not get the next upgraded software that I would not even use any of the new functionality of any way. and I say I would not be going out to by a new phone just because it looks a little older than every one else’s. It still does what it needs to do.Â
Okay, I believe more people out there would own the s2 instead of the S3. Yes, the new Jelly Bean software may have limitations to be able to be used on the galaxy S2, but the developers can somehow ‘work’ on the software so it can support the s2 as well. I believe every one else, the S2 is better than the S3, and should receive the update:)
I wonder how it is possible that nexus s having 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density), 512 MB RAM, 1 GHz Cortex-A8 will get jelly bean update and sgs2 having higher configuration than nexus s with 480 x 800 pixels, 4.3 inches (~217 ppi pixel density), 1 GB RAM, Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 will not get jelly bean update.
It may marketing strategy to sale new product like sgs3.
If so SGS II will definitely get jelly bean update but after achieving target sale of sgs3 i.e. after 5-6 months later.
Samsung Galaxy S II, Nepal
Upgraded my s2 to ICS. Have lots of problems involving, tw launcher has stopped, internet has stopped, i have to reset at least 4 times a week. I wont upgrade to jellybean in case phone packs up all together.
reset your phone tomgray, i was having problems at first then i factory reset then reinstalled my apps and it works great
the same was told for the HTC Desire last summer when Gingerbread was new, at that time there were already bunch of roms to flash. then HTC made an limited update according to them…(internal flash is limited). But this about SGSII is just blabber, resolution….lol
S2 should get Jelly Bean update. The reason being that Nexus S is getting an update and S2 is better than Nexus S in hardware terms. All S2 owners please vote for this.
absolutely the s2 should get the JB update! I had the Nexus S, and JB was running very smoothly for me anyways! and the S2 has way better hardware then the Nexus S!
My Galaxy S II on ICS 4.0.3 scores 4105 points on Quadrant. That’s 100 points higher than the score was produces by the Asus Transformer Prime, with quad core Tegra 3 CPU. Galaxy Nexus scores 1990 points and will get the update, despite it doesn’t reach the 2000 points, though. So what’s that “Galaxy S II’s low processor thing? Yes, this is just business, Samsung wants more S3 devices to be sold, and wans to kick out the older model from the ring. I’m happy with that firmware but why Apple can update their 3GS to the latest IOS6? Im searching answers for these questions.
It doesnt bother me if Samsung does not provide JB update for SGS2 cos someone at XDA developers would be working on the same, also Im not such a big fan of samsung touchwiz anyway
Seriously? I could understand Gingerbread versus ICS. But ICS vs JellyBean? Its nothing more than an incremental upgrade. It wouldn’t take squat to get in on Galaxy S2. S2 is more powerful than Galaxy nexus after all…
Where does this “news” come from? You mention The Christian Post which doesn’t say anything about where they’ve come up with this from.
I believe this when I here it from Samsung.
From what I’ve been reading on some websites the new jelly bean OS doesn’t support flash if that’s right I’d rather stick with ICS at least you will be able to view websites properly
You can still install flash, it’s Chrome that doesn’t support flash and JB uses Chrome as standard browser. Doesn’t stop you from installing another browser so not much difference from before.
Besides, even adobe has come out with that they will not update flash any more so flash will not be used in the future anyway.
Bullshit. It will get JB.
 CyanogenMOD 10 will come… 😀
I already am disappointed. ICS on my S2 was not a good “upgrade” and I wish I could undo it. If they don’t fix this somehow, I will have my eyes scanning wider for a different manufacturer.
WHat’s your problem with ICS on SGS2? Worked flawless for me and much better than GB. I’m using CM9 atm thought which works even better but before I switched to CM I used the stock ICS with no problem besides the frekkin TouchWiz.
Several app crashes, too much memory consume, often the phone get slow…
I had no problems with apps crashing, lags, or excessive memory consumption on my official ICS S2. Although I did experience these problems when I flashed the ICS update via kies. What I did was performed a DarkSide Super Wipe, re-flashed official ICS via Odin, and now ICS runs extremely flawless on my S2.Â
Ginger Bread < Ice Cream Sandwich < Jelly Bean (Traded my S2 for a Nexus).
Who even approved this article? Quad core for Jelly bean? Are you crazy? Jelly bean is just a small improvement over ICS. The Nexus is running Jelly Bean which is a dual core for your very kind information. The worst thing is such stupid article gets all the visits and is in the first page of google search as well! Seriously pathetic.
Completely agree with you! As I was reading thru the article and I was thinking: WTF is this guy talking about! Does he even use a S2 before. People like him would ruin the reputation of Phones Review!
Well said mate!!!
Total bullshit galaxy nexus has a dual core tell you they just want to sell hardware
If Sammy doesn’t release Jelly Bean this will mean people just skip offical rom and use Custom. no big deal just means devs will have to bug fix a lot of problems until they get it right for SGS2 due to hardware/kernel issues
For me its comparing what Apple do to Samsung. If Apple can support a 3GS phone with IOS6 then Samsung should support the GS2 on Jelly Bean, even if its cut down. Otherwise people will perceive that they are being abandoned earlier which sort of makes me wish I had bought an iphone instead…
The problem lies within the manufacturer and carrier, not Google. If you want a guarantee your android device will get the latest update immediately, the best bet is to get a PURE Google mobile (Nexus). I just recently sold my used 7 month old S2 with ICS for $350 and bought a Galaxy Nexus brand new for the same price. From now on, I will be purchasing strictly Nexus devices until manufacturers and carriers stops delaying/ditching updates for their slightly older models.
it means if a new customer wants a new operating system android phone then they will go to another brand apart from samsung because s3 is very expensive and all other phones of samsung will be at older version…so sony htc lg will be the first choice of everyone…this will reduce the customer of samsung..
This was copied and pasted from somewhere else. At the same time the information is all BS. Please don’t spread lies.
If the GS2 runs ICS just fine, please somebody explain to me why it wouldn’t run JB completely fine. Also, the far less powerful Nexus S is getting JB so this whole article is garbage.Â
i dont think this is true. S2 have much better processor than the nexus tho..
I bought my s2 yestrday and ics is runin awesome so i think jb shuld be their for s2
ics on the galaxy s2 is TRASH!!!! slow and hella laggy
Processor:
The Galaxy S II is a beast when it comes to raw power, it’s one of the most forward-looking handsets around at the moment with a 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor based on the Orion chipset and paired with a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit (GPU).
Google’s Nexus S is amply provided for with the same ARM Cortex heritage, this time it is a single core model, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, the predecessor to the Galaxy’s A9, featuring the Hummingbird chipset and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU.
Display:
The Galaxy S II also uses Samsung’s Super Amoled capacitive touchscreen technology, this time it’s a 4.3-inch screen but still at 480 x 800 resolution.
The Nexus features a 4-inch Samsung Super Amoled capacitive touchscreen at 480×800 pixel resolution which has a contoured curved glass screen with an oleophobic surface, meaning it repels oily finger prints.
Storage:
The Galaxy S II has a couple of options for storage and comes in either 16 GB or 32 GB flavours and has 1 GB of RAM, it also supports Micro SD cards up to 32 GB.
The Nexus S has a reasonable 16 GB of on-board storage but not 32 GB option to keep up with the Galaxy, it’s also behind on RAM with only 512 MB.
( Not possible Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly bean update but possible Google’s Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly bean)
WHY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
It’s the correct thing you said dude.
May be as Google is making Jelly Bean.So i think it will be available to all its devices but not anyother one.
Anyone handling Galaxy s2 know that it is a superfast phone.I Think it should get the update.I think they might be thinking of about it.They can’t leave this phone still this is one of the best mobile of Samsung.

I don’t think you are right Mikey, Nexus has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels comparing to 480 x 800 of SII, and no the nexus processor is not weaker than the galaxy SII (they are both same Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9. and the RAM in both of them are 1 GB, so I think you should change the source of your Informations.Â
Yeah, the cores are the same, just like in the iPhone, but you have to understand, that they have different SoCs and differ because of that in the performance department. The Ti Omap 4460 in the Galaxy Nexus simply doesnt have the same power, as the SoC in the Galaxy S2 has, the Exynos SoC. And Ram can differ in its performance too. All in all, the S2 has slightly better hardware, if it comes to pure performance, not the display.
we should not compare S2 to nexus. Do remember that nexus phones and
tablet run stock android, whereas S2 is on touchwiz or htc phones on htc
sense and same for motorola’s motoblur…they too hog precious system
resource and so its not so simple to update these devices. They need more
power and resources to run.
Running stock android is way easier.
Hardware limitation is bullshit. I run ICS on my Galaxy S for 9 months and it’s way faster than 2.3. Now I am on AOKP, which is great and lag free…
If it’s not going to be updated, i’ll never again buy another samsung product… I’m tired of all this… Delayed, never arriving updates all the time…
im with levi, if its not getting updated, never again will I fork out for samsung products
Lol im so glad i sold my galaxy s2 and bought a galaxy nexus. The gs2 dont have enough specs?? Clearly bs. The gls2 already runs really smooth with ics but after inatalling jellybean on my nexus its like a new phone so the gs2 can handle it even better due its higher hardware specs
”
According to an article on The Christian Post ”
Has anything valid ever started with that? Especially regarding technology.. For a long time Christianity didnt even believe in science..
how about they bring it out, they just recommend to not download and install because of (bs) limitations. I mean might as well, we’ll get the rooted rom 2 weeks later (or is it out already)Â
It’s working flawlessly on the Nexus S, so why shouldn’t it work on SGS2??? Â
This is all marketing policy.
Galaxy s2 is still a best phone on the market. people doesn’t need a bigger screen then this for a mobile.
Samsung is not giving update to promote the s3.
Not at all worth buying an galaxy S3 or Galaxy Nexus….. Nothing new nd outstanding… And not worth a change for galaxy S & S2 people… Wait till these company really give something worth a change … They r not working upto the mark…. fooling ppl by launching useless phones with slight modifications…. Behaving like shahrukh 1hit 2flops…. grow up guys….Â
My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S which was great but I was disappointed by Samsung’s slow Android OS updates. When the SGS2 came out I was sitting on the fence but I eventually gave Samsung the benefit of the doubt thinking they would improve. I understand why Samsung choose not to release updates for older phones as they want to people to buy their latest phones. But do they not realise that by not supporting their older phones will eventually cause consumers to abandon that manufacturer. The next phone I will get will definitely be a Nexus phone so I can benefit from the quick updates. Rumor has it that there will be 5 Nexus devices being released this year.
They won’t lose many customers if every other manufacturer works the same way. Â It’s kind of like the cell networks – they’re all near-worthless unscrupulous scumbags, so why bother switching networks unless you can’t get a basic signal?
Not all manufacturers are like that. Asus (and even Acer recently) have provided extremely timely updates to their Android tablets. If there was a manufacturer providing that level of support for an Android phone then I would gladly consider it for my next phone alongside the next round of Nexus phone(s).
If the legendary HTC HD2, with its kind of specs, can run any OS, the above mentioned beast, S2, will most certainly support Android P for Peanut butter cup!Â
The heading is just misleading. It’s not even announced and its a “disappointment”. You’re definitely clickbaiting.
why would i want jellybean ….an OS with no FLASH support….if i want that ill buy an IPHONE.
Believe it or not FLASH will be dead soon. It is no longer being supported on Androids. HTML 5 will be replacing it.
Until the HTML 5 is officially released and available on my device, i stick with the flash.Â
Same for me!
Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but this is misinformation. Neither Google or Samsung have stated that there is a HW limitation in the GS2. The GS2 will have the JB running in no time. Also don’t rely on Samsung releasing updates either since it might take them couple of months to get it updated. Best place for anyone waiting for the update is the modding community. Rooted SG2’s will be running JB in no time. 1000x better then stock Rom from Samsung with its bloatware.
Disappointed and frustrated! I’m 100% sure this is not good strtategy from Samsung…. Make it available and let owners decide. Are they trying to tell us Apple is the one who provides choice to their owners?! Oh man……
Root phone and no problem.
Hell yeah! If the Nexus S will get Jelly Bean there’s no reason in hell for the SGS2 not to get it.
I’ve read somewhere that the Nexus S will be getting 4.1 because it doesn’t have TouchWiz, which eats up enormous processing power. However, given that the S2 is much more powerful than the Nexus S, TouchWiz or no TouchWiz, it should be capable enough to handle Jelly Bean. Also, the Nexus S displays 480×800 — same as the S2 — so resolution should be a non-issue. I hope Samsung develops a conscience and later removes TouchWiz so that we get interface updates as Google intended, as seen in Nexus devices.
If I don’t get my 4.1 Jelly Bean update (Of course with No bugs). I will reconsider to move from Android to iOS. At least Apple didn’t forget their Highly-Priced-Gadget-Buyer…
totally agree
Work on Jelly Bean is progressing real quickly for Galaxy SII. Only a few more bugs to work out and it should be ready to role. Check out XDA for more information.
thats the way it is. you get a contract phone and within a few months, a better model comes out with better software and make you feel let down.Â
The official Jelly bean might not work , but the XDA Developers kicks a** and can make it work , So im not worried , ill just get the custom rom from Them.Â
That’s a bunch of bull because they just released ICS for the Nexus S which is older than the SGSII
Right on!!
Samsung wants S2 users to buy the S3 and whatever new phones they release. Waited 8 months for ICS and if they ever release JB it’s going to be in 12 months time
we should not compare S2 to nexus. Do remember that nexus phones and tablet run stock android, whereas S2 is on touchwiz or htc phones on htc sense and same for motorola’s motoblur…they too hog precious system resource and so its not so simple to update these devices. They need more power and resources to run.
Running stock android is way easier.
I believe the true reason is this: ” another thing that would cause problems for the handset is that it
wouldn’t run as smoothly with the TouchWiz Android overlay running
simultaneously with Jelly Bean.”
Because it is a known fact that TouchWiz and HTC Sense and all other custom modifications by mobile phone companies slow down the phone and use too much resources. If they would just use the awesome Google OS as vanilla like Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, it would work perfectly on Galaxy S II.
ics on the galaxy s2 on sprint is TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s because the official update has touchwiz integrated, but if you root your phone and install CM9, you would have a super stable and fast Galaxy S2…and I told you this because that is my phone 😀 GK TRY IT 😀 !!
I Switch to iphone 5 for revenge..
Like others have said here, there’s no real need to fret – root your phone and install a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod. Many think that by rooting phone they’re losing out and taking a huge risk, but the process is actually so simple. I had a situation with my S2, and I was unable to get ANY support from Samsung, they just threw me the middle finger, so I UPgraded to CM and never turned back – the support from the community is amazing, the ROM improves on a daily basis, always new tweaks to look forward to. DO it! EMBRACE OPEN SOURCE AGAHGRGHEGRHGEHGRHE
Very Nice phone on Samsung Galaxy S2 Android. It’s fully running on 4.1 Android Operating System.
I was an ardent iPhone fan since 2007. However, on waiting for the 5 to materialise  I got fed up waiting. I’d read up about the Galaxy S II and a colleague permitted me to try out his Galaxy S II; well I was hooked and went over to the dark side early 2012. An almost instant upgrade to ICS, a return to O2 for overheating problems – now it works effortlessness. For Samsung to turn round and not provide an operating system upgrade is a sure way to loose some of their new flock. Samsung want to hold onto their ever increasing slice of the market cake, they need to have a good look at the current market; with the iPhone – there are regular operating system upgrades spanning a number of models at a time.
This can’t be accurate, the Nexus S has the same resolution and is getting the update. Â Got any sources for this obvious clickfarming article?
It was a big enough pain in the bum to get ICS on my SG S2. T-Mobile bloatware takes forever  to get released, that by the time you finally get it updated, something else is already available! I’m sick of the fact that so many issues remain in every new update, On Gingerbread I could not get a GPS lock, so I was advised to upgrade to ICS, now all I get is Wifi connectivity issues, and random handset restarts.
My wife has the S2, doesnt know about Gingerbread, ICS or Jelly Bean – and really doesn’t care.Â
If Samsung made available the sources they use, for the community to build a “stock” ROM with the correct drivers then
 – The enthusiast community will be happy as they can build the ROM they want
 – The 80 – 90% of “home users” that dont know or care. Will not know or care that the sources are available.
Its the enthusiast crowd that wants these updates – and they are the minority. If Facebook and Twitter work on GB – why would my Wife need the ICS or JB update?
Nail on the head, most consumers dont even know that what they have on their phone is android, let alone ICS or JB. Personally I do like an update but my sgs2 still does me well with ICS on it but must say it isnt half as stable as it was with 2.3.5 on it.
I am a young physician . I am not a developer and i just want a good user experience
I bought my galaxy s2 in august 2011 and my galaxy tab in january 2012. MY first smart devices.waited for 5 months from january to may to get ics on s2. Didnt get it in India. Rooted it and installed anohter country’s stock. It came loaded with bloatware . And just wont update . S2’s motherboard burnt (due to unknown nonwater reason ) , paid 100$ to replace it .Tab 10.1 was so laggy , it drove me mad. I rooted it , installed ics on it , no big difference happened , the idiotic device couldnt play 1080 p youtube videosCame to USA 2 months back .Sold my tablet for 450 $ , bought an ipad for 750 . Very happy . No lag , no  update issues. iClous works like charm between my ipad and macMeanwhile  s2 s usb port came undone and american repair shops wont touch it because of risk to motherboard. S2 is still not uypdated to jelly bean . Height of fragmentationWaiting to throw this s2 on some craiglist advertisemtn and buy iphone 5 and leave peacefully .Â
they took there time to make i.c.s work so i shall wait a little longer for jellybean if they dont do it for s2 i will be jumping on the iphone boat not android 🙂
Pathetic article or not, in my experience the software update to 4.0.3 was a step backward. Like the article says, updates have compatibility issues which are not dealt with in depth. I own a sgs2 and after the update the touch lost some responsibility, phonebook takes up to 6 seconds to open up, average battery life is a bit (30%) shorter and the phone tends to freeze out more often. In spite of the increased functionality there is no reason to depreciate a perfectly working device.

Well I’m AlI Ready Running On The New 4.1.1 Jellybean OS On My Galaxy S2, All Thanks To A Custom Rom, Created By Westcrip Over At XDA DEVELOPERS WEBSITE. Anyone Who’s Interested Google “Resurrection Remix Xda Developers”
I have a Jelly bean rom on my device without touch wiz though… I actually find that it greatly improves its performance and battery life. It actually runs some apps smoother than the gs3! if you can part with touch wiz (wasn’t hard for me) and make the move to vanilla android then it is worth taking a look at installing a rom.
name prince
i want to uninstall ics from galaxy s2
this forum is not real. lier. according to samsung says galaxy s2 will get jellybean update and now they already start AOKP, and AOSP already. this mean tis is the starting of update.
Yes v wil disppointed…
I am so aggravated…I JUST bought this phone (S2) three weeks before they dropped the S3 so I feel extremely jilted. I can’t believe it…I could have spent the same amount of money three weeks later for the “latest and greatest” but now I’m supposed to upgrade for like 5 or 6 hundred dollars????!!!!!! NOT HAPPY at all!!
U mad as mentioned before the nexus s is gonna get it. Yea I’d be leave you if yousaid the HTC desire c won’t cos it porobly won’t anyway but the S2 will in around September
To anybody who happens across this, the S2 is getting JB in November according to Samsung themselves.
Since all I want is that the phone function the way that I purchased it, I have never been able to get a clear answer as to why someone who just uses the phone would want to break it. If there were some clear advantage to upgrading to ICS and then more upgrades and more upgrades more upgrades, I might find use for it. Outside of tinkering with it like yet another new toy, what to these nitpicking byweekly upgrades actually do for the average user?
definitely S2 should get jelly bean update…
S2 should get Jelly Bean. Waiting for it
You guys need to clean up your act, you’ve been promising s2’s to get jellybean since its conception, I just bought by s2 and my dad has the nexus and mine definitely out performs his, please give us the update you promised!
of course s2 should get jelly bean. Its still a brill phone and we should not be dictated to as to which model we should buy. “go on Samsung, leave those phones alone”.
ha ha wrong article
