Galaxy Nexus patch coming to get round US ban
I am sure much to the annoyance of many of the Android faithful over in the USA, the banning of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the US due to Apple claiming the Android smartphone copied some of their iPhone tech, has come as a big disappointment. However, old Sammy and Google are not sitting back and just letting Apple get their way in the matter, as word is Sammy and Google are working on a fix.
Samsung has appealed the decision to ban the Galaxy Nexus in the United States, and had asked for a stay, but apparently Judge Lucy Koh turned down Samsung’s request. However according to the guys over at Ubergizmo, by way of AllThingsD, the word is Google and Samsung are planning on launching a software patch which they believe will get round infringing on Apple’s patent.
Apparently the Google guys have stated that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus patch is to be pushed out immanently, and the word is the patch will also simplify the quick search option on the smartphone, which will only reveal web results and local search options disabled on the handset.
According to an article over on The Next Web, a spokesperson for Samsung has said about the denial of their request for a stay on the ban…
“Samsung is disappointed with the court’s decision that denied our motion to stay. We believe today’s ruling will ultimately reduce the availability of superior products to consumers in the United States. We will continue to pursue an appeal of the GALAXY Nexus preliminary injunction, which we filed on July 2 to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Meanwhile, we are also working closely with Google to resolve this matter, as the patent in question concerns Google’s unified search function.”
So there you have it, it looks like Google and Samsung will deliver that patch to get round the US ban of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the not too distant future, and hopefully Apple wont be able to get another ban put in place.
