Droid Bionic to get ICS update as RAZR gets bug fix

The team here on Phones Review try and keep our readers up to date with all the news regarding the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, and we have new reports that the Motorola Droid Bionic looks set to get the ICS update around the same time as the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX is set to get the ICS bug fix.

According to the guys at GottaBe Mobile while there is no official release date for the Motorola Droid Bionic to receive the Android ICS update it now seems likely to be coming next month. A source is claiming that the update for the handset is progressing, and a soak test for the new software should be rolled out in about two or three week’s time.

This should mean that the update for the device should begin rolling out during the middle of August, and previously the new operating system was originally down to be released by Motorola in early Q3, but the bugs that have been found with the update on the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX has seen it pushed back.

Once the soak test has been pushed out to select users to test and all goes well, then the update will be released to everyone for the handset. The ICS update for the handset has leaked out a number of times recently, so it must mean that its official release is imminent.

Meanwhile GottaBe Mobile is also reporting that the Android ICS bug fix update should be arriving for the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX in August as well. It is also being claimed that a soak test for the handsets is due to arrive in the next two to three weeks, and again if all goes well the software will be pushed out sometime in the middle of next month.

It has to be remembered that this is Android software and Verizon paired together so there is a chance that this time table could change, and the bug fix update has been in the works since just after Verizon first released the update to owners of the handsets at the end of June.

Are you looking forward to receive Android ICS on your Motorola Droid Bionic?

  1. Of course I’m looking forward to it. The music player in this thing is junk. It starts as soon as I get in the car and it links with my stereo. Also, while on a call the phone tends to scream in your ear when you get a text simultaneously with the phone call.

There’s not too much to complain about the Bionic as it stands with gingerbread, I’d even go so far to say that in some aspects motoblur is better then ICS. However, I am looking forward to an update for better voice control/options and swipe away notifications over motorolla’s tap the tiny dot method. Most of all, I’m hoping Motorolla will address the 4g/3g data radio drop issue I’ve been having.

      Yes Dusty,
Everyone is hoping for the 4g/3g radio issue to be fixed. I can tell you that if it doesn’t fix the issue, I’m going Galaxy S III ASAP. I’m tired of having a 4g phone that won’t do 4g…

I’ve owned Motorola phones sinse the half brick. It’s really disapointing to see them as far behind the curve as they are and even more disapointing to see them announce and miss the number of release dates that they have in recent months, both with phones and software. That Galaxy S III is starting to look more and more attractive.

i do not understand how the well known Motorola comapny is always late on updating equipment. perhaps we do need to switch loyalty to someone like samsung. Motorola needs to wake up.competition is going to overtake the giant:)

  5. Bet many of you did not know our phone (Bionic) has an FM receiver did you? Download the FM Radio app for the Droid 3. Works perfectly. Quality is comparable to my HD Radio.

I have a Bionic and have been anxiously awaiting the release of ICS for it. I am surprised that this isn’t a priority for a phone that is only a year old. I am stuck on Gingerbread and have to wait a year to upgrade my phone. Any reason why I should select a Motorola device again?
