Virgin Media UK to offer cheap truly unlimited data plans
In the last couple of years the increase in ownership of smartphones has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of data that is used by mobile phone users, which can sometimes mean expensive call plans. Now for residents in the UK Virgin Media is to offer truly unlimited data plans for its pay as you go customers.
According to an article on the Inquirer the wireless operator will offer unlimited data to pay as you go users from just £10 per month, which will offer customers a service to rival Three that has long been the champion of unlimited data plans in the country.
There are two different tariffs on offer with the Bid Data service providing £10 of talk time with 300 SMS texts along with the unlimited data, which the company is claiming will be a truly unlimited offering with no fair use limits. Another plan on offer is the Big Talk plan that will offer customers topping up with £10 each month with unlimited landline calls along with 120 minutes to other mobiles, or for £5 more you can add unlimited SMS messages as well.
This comes after the company revealed that it has seen a 100% increase in data use by its pay as you go users that account for 40% of its customer base. According to Jamie Heywood of Virgin Media having unlimited data is important for users to “get the most out of the amazing smartphones”, so the company decided to offer plans without the need of agreeing to a lengthy contract.
The carrier piggy backs on the T-Mobile network that has merged with Orange under the Everything Everywhere umbrella, which offers the country’s largest wireless network that customers of Virgin Media can make use of. Click here for more information on the new tariffs from Virgin.
