Nexus 5 new GPS camera control feature possible
The Google Nexus 5 smartphone is a device that many people are talking about right now and the popularity of Nexus devices that offer a pure vanilla Google Android experience seems to be growing and growing. It is believed that the Nexus 5 will launch running the next major Android operating system upgrade, 5.0 Key Lime Pie and today we have heard of a patent that could bring a brand new camera feature with GPS control to the Nexus 5.
After the massive success of the Nexus 4 by LG we have heard many rumored specs for the Nexus 5 over the last few weeks, although of course nothing has yet been confirmed. If you want to check out the latest round of rumored specs we’ve seen then head to this previous post but bear in mind that we’ve already seen several sets of specs that all differ from each other.
However the latest leaked specs did suggest that one of the key highlights of the Nexus 5 would be a particularly good camera and that tied in with news a few months ago where Google stated that the company was committed to excellent cameras for Nexus devices. The latest source claimed that the camera was the major emphasis for the Nexus 5 and the possibility of it using a 9-megapixel CCD rear camera was mentioned although there was not much more specific information supplied about this ‘mega’ camera.
News of a Google patent listing has now come to light that uses technology that would integrate the GPS of a Nexus 5 with its camera. This would mean that weather conditions and the time of day depending on the user’s location could automatically control the settings of the camera for optimum performance. If the patent listing technology is developed in time for the Nexus 5 and 5.0 Key Lime Pie then Google would have a very appealing feature on its hands and something that would be a real point of interest.
Of course for now we can only speculate about whether this feature will come to the Nexus 5 but the patent is the real deal and so it’s certainly possible. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this. NEXUS 5 still not CDMA compatible . Sprint soon will be my former cell provider .
Nexus phones will never be CDMA vast majority of the planet is GSM & when you have CDMA carriers like Verizon who refuse to let a Nexus phone be a natural Google experience & get updated when Android is updated, instead of forcing it to their release schedule. Not to mention doing things like blocking Google Wallet so they can push their own. There is no reason for Google to ever make a CDMA phone. I am speaking from bitter 1st hand experience with a Galaxy Nexus with VZW. I am using a Galaxy Note 2 now, but my contract is up in December & I am kicking VZW to the curb. I plan on buying the Nexus 5 directly from the Google Play store for $350 or so, which considering if I stayed with VZW & got a new phone with a contract renewal I would have to spend $199-299 anyways. Then I’m heading to Walmart & joining their Family Plan which uses T-Mobile’s network & is unlimited talk, text & data for $40 a month. Plus I will have the true Google experience like all Nexus devices are supposed to be, not to mention an unlocked phone! Right now I am on a family share plan with my 2 elderly parents. We share 700 minutes, I have 1,000 text (sending & receiving count against it) & 2GB data a month. My parents just have the free standard flip phones, no text or data. My bill is $135+ a month. So getting unlimited everything for me for $40 plus having a phone that I own out right & is unlocked is heaven in my mind. I’m just going to move my parents to prepaid or pay-as-you-go style, because between the 3 of us we might use 150 mins a month. I used to be with Sprint too, but I had to move literally 11.5 miles away due to a divorce & there is no Sprint coverage over here. That’s why I had to go to VZW, who I have never liked. Nexus phones are the way to go for sure, so I am looking forward to the Nexus 5 whatever it turns out to be.
This reflects my sentiment exactly. ill be dumping verizon mid june. i cannot wait for that glorious day.
I too had Verizon for a few years, but the mess with the Galaxy Nexus caused me to jump ship. I paid $200 for my ETF, sold my Gnexus (for a profit) and am paying $50 per months less on a T-Mobile plan….I have already saved much more than $200 that I would have still been paying to Verizon if I waiting until my contract ended.
I have recommended the same plan to quite a few other people, some of which also left VZW and none of the ones I regularly speak to care to ever go back to Verizon.
I recommend it to anyone. HSPA+ is just as fast in a great deal of places…certainly fast enough for you not to be able to tell the difference.

This is silly. GPS and compass will never know exactly what the photographer is shooting. How about just doing it the old fashioned way: letting the camera’s sensors decide the settings…
The camera is the main selection criterium for my next Phone.
