Official New Nexus 7 weight loss and specs bump
We have had a few months now of rumours surrounding the next version of the popular Nexus 7 Android tablet, and as expected Google has now unveiled the New Nexus 7 that loses weight and size but offers much improved specs squeezed into the device.
As expected the device comes with a 7-inch Full HD touchscreen display with a pixel density of 323ppi, which according to Google is the highest of any other Android tablet on the market. This is powered by the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM.
There is also the Adreno 320 GPU that is also found on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and there is going to be either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, which again is not expandable. There is also a 5-megapixel rear facing camera paired with a 1.2-megapixel front facer.
Other specs include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, HDMI out, and the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. There is now twin front facing speakers and the device is 2mm thinner and 50 grams lighter than the original with an extra hour promised from the battery.
The device will be available by the end of this month and in the US the 16GB model will sell for $229 or the 32GB will retail for $269 and the LTE will sell for $349. The 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi only models will be available via Google Play from next Tuesday and more retailers than ever before. The 4G LTE model will be available in the coming weeks.
In the coming weeks the device will also launch in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Australia with some retailers in the US already taking pre-orders for the device.
