Amazon smartphone could release in months

#

There have been murmurings of an Amazon smartphone for some years, and now it looks as though all the speculation might be leading to the device leaving behind its mythical status. A new report today cites KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and he has now stated that an Amazon smartphone will be introduced within three to six months.

There have been many occasions now when the rumor mill has started churning about an Amazon-branded phone, only for everything to fall quiet again. However, Ming-Chi Kuo has an excellent reputation for knowledge about upcoming devices, so this time around this could be the real deal.

Kuo predicts that Amazon will use the same hardware strategy that has been used for its tablet and e-reader, and in a note to clients says that those in the supply chain will begin stocking materials in Q2 for production. A factor that most of us would not have predicted lies in Kuo’s belief that the Amazon smartphone will pack six cameras.

These are said to be the usual rear camera and front-facing camera, as well as four extra cameras utilized for gesture control. Meanwhile BGR says that its own reliable Amazon sources have confirmed this aspect. It’s also thought that the smartphone will integrate Amazon services, which is rather less surprising.

Some specs have also been touted and they include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 4.7-inch display with ppi of around 300 to 320 ppi, and a battery of around 2000 to 2400 mAh capacity. It’s also said that the phone will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera from Sony while other cameras will be supplied by Primax.

None of this has been confirmed by Amazon at this stage, but this looks to credible information so we’ll be keeping tabs on developments. Might you be interested in an Amazon smartphone?
