Nexus 5 and 4 Android 4.4.3 update problems reported

#

While many devices are still waiting for the Android 4.4.2 update, some smartphones and tablets are already receiving Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The update recently started rolling out to some Google Nexus devices, for example the T-Mobile Nexus 4, 5 and 7, and then earlier this month we reported on 4.4.3 spreading to more hardware. However, some Nexus 5 and 4 Android 4.4.3 update problems are coming to light.

Android 4.4.3 is not a major upgrade to the operating system and mainly focuses on bug fixes, in particular for a camera software battery drain issue, and also stability improvements to notifications and network connectivity. It also brings reliability enhancements to support for Exchange Active Sync, tweaks for SMS and MMS via Hangouts, and changes to the dialer.

It’s now reported though, that some people who have updated their Nexus devices to Android 4.4.3 have noticed some issues since the update. While some of the fixes the update brings have been welcomed, it appears that a whole new bunch of bugs have emerged.

Some users of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 are now reporting Wi-Fi connectivity difficulties, and it’s also said that some owners of the Nexus 5 are reporting lag concerning the new dialer when choosing the “all contacts” option. As well as this, some random reboot problems that were occurring for the Nexus 4 with Android 4.4.2 are still happening now they’re running Android 4.4.3.

Other bugs are also being noticed concerning 3G connectivity, battery life, notifications, the Google Play Store app and more. On top of this, as well as the Nexus 4 and 5 it appears that some of these issues are also being met by Nexus 7 and 10 users.

Google hasn’t yet officially acknowledged any issues with the latest Android update, although it’s likely that they are aware of the difficulties some users of Nexus devices are encountering. Whether these problems are widespread enough for Google to quickly push out another update is questionable, so that’s why we’d like to hear from readers.

If you have already updated your Nexus 5, 4 or in fact any other Nexus device to Android 4.4.3, are you facing any problems that you hadn’t noticed prior to this? Let us know by sending us your comments.

Update has left my Nexus 5 in permanent portrait mode. Screen will not rotate into landscape mode for any app. Problem stated immediately after update reboot.

I bought a new nexus 5. It was working fine until I upgraded it to 4.4.3. My WiFi stopped working immediately. WiFi button is greyed out. I just can’t turn it on. I did factory reset, restarts, reboots, downgrades nothing worked

Don’t know what guyz are complaining about, I normally run rooted but with 4.4.3 in having the best battery, speed and all stock. Only issue is I thought an issue with battery drain on, 4.4.2 using Instagram was fixed but after a few days it’s come back 😢

here’s a trick that will save you battery life. Download an app called Watchdog Lite. It will tell you when an app is getting out of control (and therefore draining your battery). When you see that, you may also notice that your battery life has dropped quite a bit. Restart your phone, and the misbehaving app will go back to normal.
Works for my nexus 5 anyway! hope this helps you!!

  5. Andy says:

We all know that the battery life is not the greatest on the nexus 5 but after the update its horrible it drains just in couple of hours. Not satisfied at all but still love my phone.
Didn’t see any other issues yet

The battery drain after the new update is terrible. My nexus 5 used to have a really great battery life and now after the update it drains in a matter of hours

Battery life! I wondered what was wrong. My Nexus 7 seems to be in the red far more often with no increase I’m usage. Charge seems slower too.

  8. Andre says:

So far, the only major issue I’ve had since the upgrade, the hot spot keeps turning off while I’m using it, something that never happened before the update.

  9. jz says:

Nexus 4 when I hit the back button to get out of apps it will briefly show a previous used page or app before it goes to home it doesn’t hurt anything but drives me nuts

  10. Niki says:

Nexus 5 battery life is worse because “play services” keeps draining it, also getting quite hot, still have random network drops (although I’m convinced most if that is where I love as all phones I’ve ever had have done that) and camera still does random cannot connects? Apart from the battery/play services issue its not really anything at all wrong. I love my nexus 5!!

  11. Hamish Budge says:

Nexus 4 now running warm also frequent intermittent “please wait” pop up. WiFi note unreliable in bursts. At other times it refunds okay but definatrly less reliable.

  12. Alex says:

Proximity sensor working in reverse. Screen on next to ear and off when held in front. Makes it impossible to disconnect without covering up the proximity sensor with one hand and pressing red end banner with the other.

Nexus 4. The update stalls my Kiwi Bank mobile banking app. Excessive Random reboots. I’d like to restore my 4.4.2 version!
Come on google get it right!

  14. rahul puri says:

4.4.3 has screwed my nexus 5, I m not able to make calls itself.
As soon as I dial a number, calls hang up automatically.
    This is insane…

  15. kashtekar says:

Not connect to network, keeps saying “On Airplane” mode even after toggling several times, switching on-off, removing SIM etc etc. No able to make basic phone calls.

  16. jason says:

since the 4.4.3 update on nexus 5 when using slimport the audio comes out the phone now and not through HDMI and the resolution is like VGA. I’m also charging my phone twice a day now.

  17. Debbie says:

My 2012 Nexus 7 tablet updated last night and there was an immediate change in performance. It is sluggish and the touch response is awful, making typing this comment a task that is to the point of being painful. Aack!

    1. Bill says:

My Nexus 7 (2012) has also changed since the update. Problems include poor connection to Wi-Fi when first switching on; variable notification of emails, etc. Also faster draining of the battery. On checking it appears that the screen is using 70% of the battery!! Sort it out Google.

  18. DizZ says:

With nexus 4 I cannot hear anything when making a call except if I push the handfree speaker button but everyone can hear my conversation

    Moto G 4G ….
Why can`t we just have a one flippin firmware that works and lets stick with it instead of having a perfectly good 4.4.2 and then f******g it up by updating it to 4.4.3 because i now have wifi issues and apps that won`t work thanks to yet another flippin update !Either that or why don’t the developers try testing these updates before releasing them? DUR and DOH come to mind !
