HTC launches the HTC Desire 820, HTC Desire 820q and Desire 816G in India
If you love smartphones and live in India, it’s a good time to be a fan of tech. The country is getting dozens of new smartphones over the next few months, and HTC is joining the fray by releasing the HTC Desire 820 and HTC Desire 816 along with a couple of variants.
Whether you’re on a budget or have money to burn, HTC has something for you with its incoming India release. The HTC Desire 820 has a 64-bit Snapdragon 615, 2GB of RAM, and a mean 13MP/8MP camera combo. It’s a beastly 4G handset, and it has a 5.5-inch 720p display. The “variant” HTC Desire 820q specs basically show the same thing, but it will have a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM compared to the 615 and 2GB of RAM.
The HTC Desire 816 is also a nice device, and it initially arrived in India back in April for around Rs. 23,990. The HTC Desire 816G is essentially the same handset, but it’s 3G only and has a slower 1.3GHz quad-core chip compared to the Snapdragon 400 in the regular model. We assume this will help bring the price down in the region although we’re not sure how much good it will do considering the smartphone onslaught going on in India right now. Customers have a lot to choose from that’s for sure.
It’s always nice to see the big boys bring top-tier or updated devices to other markets, but we’re not sure how much sense it makes for HTC, a company that is apparently struggling with its finances. Unless they price the new models cheap, they are going to have a tough time gaining ground in a region where $100 handsets are becoming the way to go. They also have to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Alpha release, iPhone 6 and dozens of other devices set to launch over the next few months.
The HTC Desire 820 and Desire 820q price is unknown, but both are expected to be ready to go in November. The HTC Desire 816G will hit the streets in next month and is priced at Rs. 18,990 in India. Are you interested in any of HTC’s new handsets or have you already decided on your next device?
