Get into Shape with the new Google Fit App
A lot of folks associate smartphones and tablets with laziness, because let’s face it, we all tend to sit around doing things on our smart devices. Health and fitness are starting to get more attention, and Google is throwing its healthy hat into the ring with the recently released Google Fit app.
The Google Fit app is about as simple as it gets, and it may be a little sparser than you’re expecting when you first fire it up. In a nutshell, the app lets you set “goals” based on steps or duration and it keeps track of your progress throughout the day. You’ll get performance-based recommendations on your goals, and as with most fitness apps, you can chart and track your progress over time.
One of the cooler things about the Google Fit app is its ability to work with other devise aside from your smartphone. You can hook up to your Android Wear smartwatch or other third-party devices to really kick things up a notch. That being said, it will apparently wipe your progress on your Android Wear watch when you start, so you may want to keep that in mind.
The Google Fit app isn’t a full-fledged fitness tracker, but it’s a start and a good way to keep track of your daily activity. The app should work on almost any Android device out there as long as your running 4.0 or higher, and it shouldn’t be long before we see developers start integrating Google Fit into their fitness and health apps as well. You can pick up the Google Fit app for free on Google Play if you want to give it a whirl.
