The YouTube Kids app has arrived for Android and iOS

#

If you own a smartphone, you probably have the YouTube app installed, and it’s one of the most used mobile applications on the planet. It isn’t always a good thing to have unlocked if you have kids, as there are plenty of videos not safe for children out there. If you keep your kids away from YouTube, you can now turn them loose thanks to the new YouTube Kids app.

The YouTube Kids app arrived a few days ago, and Google has taken the “walled” garden approach to things with the new application. This means your children can only access the videos available through the app which includes Shows, Music and Teaching videos. There is also an Explore section and a search function, but they won’t find anything not already available within the app.

In terms of content, the YouTube Kids app appears to have a slew of clips, shows, and movies. Browsing through the channels, we came across LEGO, Pocoyo, Peppa Pig, Pancake Manor and Baby Mozart among others. The learning section has plenty of projects as well and you’ll be make things like glowing bouncy eggs or brush up on topics like cryptography. If you want to limit your childs viewing habits, you can do that in the settings where you can turn off search or set up a viewing timer.

YouTube Kids App

As with most things Googley, the YouTube Kids app is free to download and as its for kids, there’s not need to worry about IAP’s or other bothersome features. If you want to give it a whirl, you can pick up YouTube for kids on Google Play or the App Store.
