Vivo Xplay 5 and Ultimate Edition 4GB/ 6GB RAM prices at launch

It seems to have been a long time coming, but just as expected the high-end Vivo Xplay 5 and an enhanced version have been officially introduced. We have news on the Vivo Xplay 5 and Ultimate Edition 4GB/ 6GB RAM prices at launch, as well as all you need on specifications and more coming right up.

We’ve been covering leaks about the Xplay 5 for many months now, and more recently the company started to issue teasers ahead of its arrival. Recently it appeared that there might be more than one version and the launch event that has take place in China has now clarified this. At last we have clearer details as the Xplay 5 has 4GB of RAM while the Vivo Xplay 5 Ultimate Edition (aka Vivo Xplay 5 Elite) has a whopping 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

It doesn’t seem long ago that we were impressed with 2GB of RAM for smartphones, and so the Vivo Xplay 5 Ultimate Edition in particular is a significant arrival. The Xplay 5 and its Ultimate Edition sibling have the same design and build but differ in processors as well as RAM. The regular Xplay 5 packs a Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor while the Ultimate Edition variant is equipped with a Snapdragon 820 quad-core CPU.

Other specs for both of these new Vivo smartphones include a 5.43-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440. The dual curved display is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. There’s 128GB of internal storage, and a 3600 mAh battery with dual-charging technology for fast charging. At the back there’s a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and IMX298 sensor, and at the front you’ll get an 8-megapixel shooter.

Vivo Xplay 5 and Ultimate Edition

The Xplay 5 and Xplay 5 Ultimate Edition are dual SIM handsets that runs the Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based FunTouch OS. They also have 4G+ LTE connectivity offering speed of up to 300Mbps, HiFi 3.0, and three OPA1612 chips for an enhanced audio experience. Another feature is a rear fingerprint sensor, and a further benefit is split-screen multitasking. The handsets come in Champagne Gold and Rose Gold color choices and have an all-metal build with strong aluminum-magnesium alloy body.

The phones go on sale in China first from March 8. While availability outside China has not been detailed yet, we expect them to launch in further regions at some point. The Vivo Xplay 5 price for China is CNY 3,698 (around $565, £404, €519, or Rs. 38,300.) Alternatively the Xplay 5 Ultimate Edition price is CNY 4,288 (around $655, £469, €602, or Rs. 44,400).
