Deutsche Post World Net & O2 Telefónica Sign €350m Deal

Telefónica has been selected by Deutsche Post World Net to manage their communications service in 28 European countries for the next 5 years, which means Telefónica is to become Deutsche Post World Net’s primary mobile and fixed telecommunications provider across Europe.

Telefónica is expected to help save in excess of €150 million in costs over the 5 year period. Telefónica will deliver secure telecommunications to 125,000 employees and 2,400 sites across Europe and aims to transform Deutsche Post World Net’s IP net services.

This service will be supplied by Telefónica in Spain, and O2 businesses in the United Kingdom, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and newer operations in a further 23 Western European countries.

A dedicated 24/7 Service Management Centre in Prague is to manage the service with an expected go-live date of early summer of 2009.

Telefónica will also reinforce and further extend their worldwide IP backbone in Europe to provide wide area network connectivity, LAN services, fixed voice, centralised Internet access, IT services such as web conferencing, unified messaging and fixed mobile convergence and mobile voice and data.

– This is the largest and most complex Telecommunication contract Telefónica has signed in the enterprise / MNC market and one of the largest bespoke telecoms deals ever handled in Europe, including both fixed and mobile

– DPWN are currently managed by 84 different providers, so they are significantly streamlining their operations

– The total value of the contract is circa €350 million over five years

– This multi national deal was led from the UK and will provide Deutsche Post World Net with €150m savings over the next five years

– The contract comprises of more than 100,000 LAN ports, more than 60,000 fixed voice devices as well as 80,000 mobile connections including 24,000 mobile phones and smartphone devices Telefónica O2 UK will be providing the leadership for the management of the account
