According to the Associated Press, mobile phone usage in the United States has for the first time surpassed the usage of traditional landlines.

According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey 20% of households had only mobile phones in the last half of 2008 which is an increase of 3% over the first half of 08 and the largest 6 month increase since data gathering began in 03.

Figures show that 20% of homes have mobile handsets only as compared to 17% without mobile phones but with landlines, whereas in 2003 only 3% of households were wireless only and 43% were landlines only.
