iPhone 3.1 (3.0.1) redsn0w and ultrasn0w jailbreak now safe
Worried about jailbreaking your iPhone now that iPhone OS 3.0.1 is out, don’t be because according to the iphone blog you can safely update to iPhone OS 3.0.1 and still jailbreak the iPhone.
Apparently redsn0w v0.8 can be reused to jailbreak after allowing iTunes to update to iPhone OS 3.0.1. The trick is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the ISPW used, just point it at the 3.0 IPSW rather than the 3.0.1 IPSW.
Once done then reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need to unlock your iPhone. Unfortunately iPhone OS 3.0.1 kills off the use of purplesn0w.

I have a 2G iphone which I upgraded to 3.0.1 but doing this blocked my iphone but didn’t unlock it.
I then used RedSn0w 7.2 to jailbreak it and as described above I pointed the ipsw to version 3.0 NOT 3.0.1 and presto it worked like a dream and whatsmore it left the iphone software at 3.0.1!
Well done again Dev Team, where would we be without their expertise?
I had used Redsn0w 7.2 n 8.0, hoping to unlock my iphone 1st Gen but it didnt work. The main prob is that the iphone was restored using itunes to 3.0.1 firmware accidentally. Now the iphone is on emergency calls only. Tried downgrading but always receiving errors.. Pls help Dev Team…. 😉
