It’s an awesome phone — now even better. Thank you HTC for getting this done quickly. I love HERO! Coolest Android phone out there. It’s the Android phone that Droid wishes it was.

I’ve had my Hero for about 2 weeks now and outside of a few issues like the analog clocks being wrong i’m very pleased with my phone. I used to have the HTC touch running 1.6 windows mobile….. complete garbage, almost forgot what it felt like to have a phone that wouldn’t freeze on you at least twice a day. As i type this I’m installing my firmware upgrade and will be testing the analog clock as I like that better than the digital one. Hope this upgrade will correct the incorrect time it showed.

  3. gary says:

Just downloaded the upgrade and noticed right off the bat that the weather clock widget on my home page is now showing the correct time and is sync’d with the phone. Prior to the update, the clock on the widget was one hour behind in my home area. Hopefully I’ll see greater battery life. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Me Too Dexter, when I got my first call after the update I saw that speaker icon and said This is cool! I still have to see what else is updated, I worked a 12 hour day, didnt have real time to look more deep into it.

  5. Brett says:

Like Dexter and others having the speaker and mute option right on the main call screen is awesome. To get this firmware if not discovered yet Joe…. you go under programs to Device Self Help and click on firmware it will take about 5 minutes and restarts. Looks for a while like the HTC screen is frozen, but it’s just processing.

I tried to download the update and it kept saying no update available. I even went as far as restoring my phone and still no luck…not a good sign yet.

  7. e says:

@joe . Hit menu- settings- about phone – system updates – firmware update. I.m still trying to get it. Having problems with phone just sitting there after I click to install the update .

  8. e says:

Finally got the update installed. Took like 20 tries and multiple restarts . Note. Firmware version shown on phone is still 1.5 but software version is now 1.56……

  9. Chayi says:

I just downloaded the update and the first thing i noticed is when i do my pattern code to unlock the phone, it kinda skips at times and keeps sayin try again. Even when i type, i tap once and the letter shows up twice even three times. Im not doing nothing different. Not pressing to hard or too soft, and this never happened before. Any one else experience this after the update???

  10. Jim says:

I updated my Hero but it still won’t sleep. I have factory reset it and then installed the new update and still won’t sleep. I love what the phone can do but i am very displeased with the battery life.

  11. keith says:

its been a week since the firmware update to my phone and i dont notice a difference at all with my battery… it still sucks bad like before… seriously after about 4 hours of average usage it needs to be charged just like before the update. oh well… still a cool phone

  12. Alan says:

I just upgraded to 1.56. So far, I’ve seen “mute/speaker” icons on calls and I sense less camera shutter latency. I am told that battery life is improved and SMS bugs have been fixed. I am very happy with this Sprint Hero and I am a fussy PDA power user!

  13. jasmine says:

Yep speaker and mute button on call screen… one more piece that would be extremely helpful… a touchscreen disable button so I can talk on the phone without worrying about accidentally hanging up on someone… or how about a sleep mode while the phone is charging… that way if Im on the phone while its charging the screen can sleep also helping to prevent accidental hangup

  14. Did the update and after a full day I have only 4% uptime when I use to get around 98%. So I would say yes, the battery problem has been fix. The msm problem seems to be gone but it’s to early to say for sure.

  15. peter says:

In addition to speaker/mute, my calendar seems to work better with microsoft exchange server. previously, appointments were showing up 1 hr earlier than scheduled.

  16. Pete says:

After the update, my Wi-Fi connection actually works consistently at home. Previously, it would only connect maybe 1% of the time. Now it is fairly reliable, around 99%, although I did have to “forget” the previous configurations and create a new connection. As for the time/date problem, that was fixed for me on the last firmware update.

  17. Eric says:

Still having issues with my clock. I live in Milwaukee, work in Glendale, WI. When I’m in Milwaukee city limits, my clock works fine, when I’m in Glendale it reads it as Glendale California, setting my clock back 2 hours yet still showing me the Glendale Wisconsin weather. Tried all the firmware updates, no luck. Any help?

  18. Randy says:

I bought this phone thinking it had adobe flash! I saw the first hero playing flash in a video so i thought this to would have flash. Man I hope they get flash for this!!

  19. Brandon says:

Since the new update I have been having a major issue of the phone freezing when someone calls me when I am already speaking with someone else. When I answer the incoming call it works, but when I try to get back to the person on hold it freezes the whole phone . I cant even get it to shut off or make any calls. Finally after an hour if someone new calls me it will unfreeze. This has happened multiple times.

  20. Beth says:

After I updated, my phone keeps shutting down and restarting. Pretty annoying. I do like the mute and speaker buttons during a call. If anyone knows what I can do to fix the shutting down issue that would be great. Thank you.

  21. Patrick says:

I just updated my hero 3 1/2 hours ago and now it keeps shutting down and rebooting itself every 5-10 mins. WTF?? Anyone have a clue about this before I take it back to the store?

  22. Patrick says:

hey beth, i figured out how to fix the shutting down and rebooting problem on the hero. your going to have to do a factory reset which means you need to sync all your contacts to your computer first. you shouldnt lose any of your pics on your sd card but just in case i backed them up as well. then just go into your settings on your phone and do a factory reset.

  23. Vincent says:

I’ve been having issues with my speaker whenever I make or receive calls. It just doesn’t make sense, I got the phone a week ago and it sounds like the speaker was blown out since it’s always scratchy and crackling whenever I talk to someone. Is there any way to fix this or is it better to just swap out for replacement phone?? Do most Heros have this issue and did anyone find a way to fix this yet??

  24. Sam says:

Update went fine, took all of 6 mins but does anyone know why this silly phone can’t play youtube clips and slow after just adding 3 additional apps on the phone? The apps in question are Bible, tic-tac-toe and unit converter. It’s keeps on buffering and doesn’t play. I should have gotten the Moment when I renewed my contract, at least that phone is faster!

  25. Sabrina says:

I updated and now my phone randomly restarts and I can be doing something important and it will just turn off and on with no notice now !!!

  26. Jeff says:

Seems like ever since I had the update 90% of the voices when trying to talk with someone are scratchy, sounds like they are trying to talk through a piece of wax paper. Tech support tried a bunch of stuff but it didn't help. Could the speaker be going out?
