Why is it that most businesses seem to wait right on top of the holidays to hit their employees with a hard to take, harsh as hell kind of announcement? One would think that those management heads that make these decisions must have hearts of solid stone; this time Nokia management are the stonehearted ones it seems.

According to an article over on intomobile, Finnish YLE has found out that Nokia is gearing up to lay off 2000 employees at their Salo factory in Finland, and said layoffs will run on a 90 day cycle which one presumes means 90 day of working and 90 days not working and so on.

The reason for this is apparently Finnish labour laws make it quite difficult to fire someone, and thus this way the factory can just run with 20 percent less employees.

Nokia spokesperson, Tapani Kaskinen has stated that it is just too bad the news was announced right before the holidays. One does have to say that isn’t that always the case in these matters, and to the money men all they see is the cash saving and not what hardships it may bring their employees. Of course this could also be seen, along with the closer of their flagship stores, as Nokia is struggling to keep afloat in the mobile world.
