Looks like the Big Red has become more energy efficient in their communication stores as according to an article released by prnewswire, 60 of Verizon’s communications stores have received recognition for energy efficiency by the Environmental Protection Agency, which is up on the 32 stores in 2009.

59 Verizon stores have gained the ENERGY STAR certification and is the highest of any wireless carrier. Furthermore 2 newly built Communications Stores were among the first to apply for and gain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, LEEDs for short, certification from the US Green Building Council.

To enable their stores to be more energy efficient, Verizon Wireless has utilised ENERGY STAR equipment, recycled content products, environmentally friendly finishes, low-flow plumbing fixtures, construction and operating waste reduction, efficient lighting, efficient HVAC systems, and energy management and monitoring system.

Furthermore, all Verizon Wireless stores feature HopeLine phone collection bins whereby shoppers can drop off their old phone and help the environment and survivors of domestic violence and all donated handsets are recycled or refurbished with the funds raised going to cash grants, phones, and air-time to non-profit domestic violence agencies and survivors.
