The latest smartphone to hit the Sprint network is of course the second device to be able to surf a 4G network, the Samsung Epic 4G which has been available in the US, but it the Samsung Epic better than the HTC EVO 4G?

Jason Chen over at Gizmodo has now given the Samsung Epic 4G the once over and come up with a very lengthy review of the device which starts off by asking if the Epic is better than the EVO and replies “In almost every way.”

Jason says that the Samsung Epic 4G is bigger than the HTC EVO 4G but its not a heavy handset, the EVO measures 4.63 x 2.3 x 0.47 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces, while the Samsung Epic is 4.9 x 2.54 x 0.56 inches and weighs 5.46 ounces but doesn’t feel heavier.

Jason also says that the Samsung Epic 4G’s slide out keyboard is one of the best he’s used since HTC was making Windows Mobile handsets and thus one of the best slide out keyboards currently on the market with enough separation between keys so you don’t hit the ‘T’ when you mean to hit the ‘R’ or ‘Y’.

Screen wise when compared with the HTC EVO 4G, the Super AMOLED of the Samsung Epic 4G although brighter, sharper and clearer, does seem to have a ‘blue tint’ to it but you wouldn’t notice until the devices were side by side.

Speed wise, as the Samsung Epic and HTC EVO 4G both sport a 1GHz processor they come out roughly the same give or take meaning some stuff will seem faster on the Epic while other stuff will seem faster on the EVO, but both handsets being 4G means if you’re in a 4G area you can expect speeds up to 3x as fast and while using 4G the user can still make calls and use data simultaneously.

Jason also covers the camera, battery, software, Samsung customisations, software updates, Swype by default, but ultimately comes to the conclusion that the Samsung Epic 4g is the best 4G handset and the best Samsung Galaxy S phone and is a clear winner over the HTC EVO 4G, but would you agree?
