O2 UK Freezes Android 2.2 Update to HTC Desire
The Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire was delivered to O2 UK customers earlier, but has not been frozen only after a couple of hours due to customers reporting the update was freezing their devices.
According to an article over on Electric Pig by Gareth Beavis and by way of the guys over at Techradar, O2 halted pushing out the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire only hours after won’t be going live again until such times as the issue is understood and been resolved.
According to a spokesperson for O2 UK, “The Android Froyo 2.2 update for HTC Desire went live on O2 this morning…While many have been able to download it successfully; we have had a small number of reports of customers having problems installing the software, which we are looking into.”
Apparently the new Android 2.2 Froyo update is causing the O2 loading screen to freeze or the HTC Desire browser to crash. So have any of our readers had this HTC Desire Android 2.2 problem?

I have HTC Desire on Vodafone. Received the 2.2 update and e-mails started dissapearing. I e-mailed HTC & the reply was ' do a hard reset or contact customer services to arrange for phone to be sent away and reverted back to 2.1. I did the hard reset and e-mail ok for a while but now deleting mails again. I don't really like the option of sending my phone away for god knows how long & not really a satisfactory response. You'd think they'd be able to sort these issues out and send another update to correct but no. Guess I'm screwed for now. Completely understand why O2 put a stop on this. HTC need to sort it out once and for all.
if you unlock your phone so its sim free and manualy update it your problem will disapear
2.2 update caused my e-mail to vanish. Told by HTC to do hard reset. Did the hard reset & ok for a while but e-mail dissapearing again. Don't want to send my phone away to revert back to 2.1, don't want to do hard reset again and lose my contacts again. Would just like HTC to sort this out once and for all and send me an update which will correct the issues. If true, O2 were correct to halt 2.2 to there customers if this unstable.
You don't seem to be posting my comments regarding HTC Desire & 2.2 causing e-mail to dissapear?
Is there a good reason for this. Not too upsetting for HTC I hope? I mean Phones Review are impartial aren't they?
HTC customer service is appalling! I had the same thing with the HTC Hero Orange 2.1 Android update. It completely screwed up my phone, HTC say do a hard reset, didn't work, then HTC say send it to us so I did. What did they do? Put 1.6 ROM back on it. They blame it all on the networks adding their own stuff in the update. They recommended trying a different network or buy a sim free one.
Switched to Vodafone and had a HTC Desire. Vodafone 2.2 update comes through and screws up the phone. Back to HTC, another hard reset. No joy. Sent phone back to HTC and now original 2.1 ROM is back.
All of these issues are caused by the networks trying to hijack the original Android updates and adding their own cr@p to it. Never will I buy a network subsidised handset again, only gonna buy sim free. It looks like so many manufacturers are just leaving the handsets without the updates to avoid any problems. This is a major downside for Android.

after the up date mine wont load up fail fail fail fail
the best thing you guys can do is unlock your phones so are sim free.Once youve done this boot the them up and put them in recovery mode.Then search for a update manually,you will find an update,problem solved
