TerreStar Genus Finally Released on AT&T
Quite a long time ago, almost a year in fact, word had it that AT&T would gain a Windows Mobile based smartphone with satellite capability and would be the Genus from TerreStar. Well you may have forgotten about the device or even though it had already seen release but no.
According to an article over on Engadget by Chris Ziegler, the TerreStar Genus has finally been released on the Big Blue network. Unfortunately though the TerreStar Genus isn’t exactly the type of device that most people would rush out to purchase.
The TerreStar Genus is a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 device and currently is only available to government users and business, and can be purchased for an up front price of $799 while that satellite service will set the user back $25 a month with charges of per minute at 65 cents, per message at 40 cents and per megabyte at $5 a pop
Spec wise the TerreStar Genus packs a 2.6 inch touch screen, a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, Microsoft Office Mobile, Outlook Mobile, VoIP application, satellite connectivity and microSD expansion; so anyone really interested in picking up the TerreStar Genus on AT&T?

Congratulations to the TerraStar/AT&T team!! This phone represents a major step forward for public safety communications and disaster recovery. It also has applications in numerous commerical markets based in remote areas.
The new phone “breaks the mold” of traditional satellite phones and will be a winner.
Is it for everyone? No…but the unique capabilities it offers in a small package without a huge antenna will — I believe — revolutionize hybrid terrestrial/satellite communications.
I had the honor of serving as the English language anchorperson for the Ariane 5 launch broadcast of TerraStar-1 from Kourou in july of last year. The satellite made history when it was launched, and I think today’s handset launch is great news!!

I googled this because I was looking for a review of the phone last week but there were no reviews. I bit the bullet and bought it… aaaaand it's awesome. I live here in Philadelphia and there are just way to many cell phones for the networks to support the phones. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
