Google, HTC, Motorola, Samsung Sued for Patent Infringement with Android
And still the arena of patent infringement law suits continues with the latest law suit being to do with Android patent infringement filed against Google, HTC, Motorola, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Telecommunications America.
According to a report by Angeline Benoit over on the Wall Street Journal, the above companies are being sued by French smart card maker and digital security firm Gemalto NV with the patent infringement suit filed in the US.
Apparently the patent infringement lawsuit is to do with Gemalto innovations in the Android OS, the Dalvik virtual machine along with associated dev tools and products. Apparently the patented technologies in said lawsuit were developed by Gemalto’s research and development facilities in Texas back in the 1990’s.
According to the complaint Google Android incorporated Gemalto’s patented Java Card Tech without permission from Gemalto and the company states that “The Android devices provided by defendants that incorporate the Android Operating System and Android Applications infringe one or more claims of the patents-in-suit.”
The complaint also lays accusations against HTC, Motorola and Samsung who use, and sell Android devices with Android apps and software. So looks like another long draw out legal battle is on the cards.
